VERY RARE Jazz LP MOOD INDIGO Bill Jennings This is an original 1955 LP: KING 395-508
This rare LP features Legendary Jazz guitarist Bill Jennings and his brother, Albert Jennings on Vibraphone. No other instruments, but the combination of these two gifted musicians hits all the chords and create a very dreamy atmosphere. Their playing is impeccable.
A copy of this recently sold on a Jazz Collector's site for $112. That was listed in EX condition. I am not a professional record evaluator. This record has a number of “ticks” but no skips tracking at 2.5-3 grams on my Audio-Technica ATPL-120 (with Shure Magnetic Cartridge & needle). LP has most of its original shine. In its long life, this LP was likely played on some older needles, since there is noticeable surface noise throughout. However, when I ran it through an inexpensive audio program (Spin It Again acoustica) selecting one of the Audio and Cleaning Presets eliminated most of the background noise. Right now I am listening to the record itself without any filtering. Still a very enjoyable listen, but I do prefer the edited MP3 files I have created with Spin It Again. Overall, with no skips in a 60 year old album that has been played on who knows how many different record players/turntables over the decades, I would have to say the album is in Good condition. My edited version is Very Good.
The LP jacket is in OK shape. The top had been repaired long ago with a now yellowed tape, and more recently with a better quality clear tape. The repairs are only on the top of the jacket. There is wear to the corners and considerable rub marks and/or stains on the cover, but the jacket is totally intact. Also there is an old price tag sticker (original?) in the lower right hand corner. I was afraid to attempt to remove this because it appears to be permanently affixed to the cover. (See Photo) Also, the inner sleeve is a very old “cellophane” paper sleeve-I believe the one that has been with the record since it left the KING factory.
**Note: Bill Jennings was self-taught, played left handed but with the guitar strung for a right handed musician(large strings on the bottom and smaller string on top). Starting out he didn’t know there were “left-handed guitars.” So he could play some unique combinations, bass runs, chords, etc. I have read on line that he always played that way. Another short bio stated he COULD play either way…. Biographical information on him is very limited. Please email questions.
