!THIS IS A FACTORY SAMPLE!
Well, this was the start of something HUGE! Here we have the very first pressing of the Beatles' first released album, from the 22nd of March 1963.
It was the first and only time the MONO version was released before the STEREO version.
She entered the charts on the 6th of April and climbed to the top slot-staying there for a huge CONSECUTIVE 30 weeks, from May!...Maybe HUGE is too small a word for it?!
Catalogue Number: PMC 1202
Matrix Numbers:
Side 1: XEX 421-1N
Side 2: XEX 422-1N
Mothers & Stampers:
Side 1: 1/R
Side 2: 1/A
W-O-W...Incredibly early pressing here.
The Vinyl:
HEAVYWEIGHT 169g
G+.
After gently cleaning the album, firstly with a vaccuum clean and then and ultrasonic bath, followed by a final vaccum, I popped her onto my deck and have just finished listening to the whole album and found an honest, clear sound reproduction.
There is some light backgound noise, but this really wasn't offesnive at all.
There is one tiny skip on track 1, side 2 and a stick at the end of Taste of Honey on side 2...So...this baby is really for those with heavier stylus than mine-a good repair hand or simply for framing as the FACTORY SAMPLE sticker really makes this copy stand out and thankfully that sticker is on side 1, which is the less marked side and would display very well indeed.
There is a small splodge evident on side 2-but this had zero effect on playback and is not overtly visible at all.
QUALITY VINYL
-WITH A POWERFUL SOUND REPRODUCTION-
THEY KNEW HOW TO MAKE THEM BACK THEN :)
The labels:
VG+.
FIRSTLY-LET'S NOTE THE RARE FACTORY SAMPLE STICKER!... it’s a little dirty from its age but remains perfectly legible. These copies were used for quality control and not many of them are around as you can imagine.
Other than that:
The labels are the VERY 1st version with the Dick James credits. This was an error and quickly changed for the next pressing with the corrected Northern Songs credits.....
ONLY 25,000 of these were made.
There is only light central hole wear to both sides of each label-please see the detailed pictures provided.
VERY DISPLAYABLE
*NO WRITING TO THE LABEL*
The Parlophone Company' edge lower case text.
NO 'Sold In The UK' text.
NO 'First Published' text,
Small 33 1/3
The "ZT" tax code is clearly visible to the naked eye, on side 1.
The Cover:
VG(+).
ORIGINAL Ernest. J. Day cover.
(These were made to keep up demand with sales and were produced roughly at a 10:1 ratio in comparisson to the regular Garrod & Lofthouse covers.
With the Angus McBean to the bottom right corner, on the front.
The front cover remains very bright and very displayable too.
She does have some storage wear-as can be seen in the detailed images provided-a couple fo lines of wrinkling to the front laminate near the opening. Other than that the flipbacks look to be in good order and all free from splits.
The spine is is superb strong shape too-and remains clearly legible.
**NO WRITING**
*NO MAJOR SPLITS*
(Small 4cm to the bottom seam at the opening)
ALL ORIGINAL!!
WOULD LOOK GREAT FRAMED.
HEAVY-WEIGHT LAMINATED CARD COVER
The inner:
EX+/NMint!
1st printing run of this inner too!! It carries the much rarer text: "Patents Applied For" as well as the usual "Made In England"
All original "Use Emitex" tracing-paper lined inner. In TOP SHAPE...Just a few small spots of discolouration to the paper, due to age-a bit like me!
NO SPLITS & NO WRITING
PLEASE SEE THE DETAILED IMAGES PROVIDED AND READ MY HONEST FEEDBACK FOR TRUE GRADINGS AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
