DESCRIPTION

Various Artists - “A Very Special Christmas” A&M Records SP 3911 (Stereo) from 1987. Hard to find Original First Pressing Translucent Vinyl Pop / Rock / R&B / Hip-Hop Christmas album benefitting The Special Olympics. Features a host of Superstars including U2, Bruce Springsteen, The Pretenders, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Bon Jovi, Stevie Nicks, John Mellencamp, Sting and more! Also features a number of big name backing players like Darlene Love, Steve Jordan,  Clarence Clemons, Richie Hayward, Steve Lukather, Jay Winding, Lisa Germano, Nils Lofgren, Rick Vito, Richie Sambora, Robbie Nevil, Waddy Wachtel and more. 
Pressed on Vinyl that appears Black but is a Translucent Brownish when held before a strong light. I think it is probably an Audiophile type vinyl like Quiex II or possibly KC 569 Blend Premium Virgin Vinyl. The LP is not marked as a Promo but I understand that many record companies during this era would make small initial runs on Audiophile Vinyl that were sent to Radio Stations so I think that might be what this is. In the Original cover with Gold Foil (yes, I know it looks black in the pics, it is gold) Embossed Keith Haring artwork. Also includes the Original Picture and Notes Inner Sleeve with Keith Haring artwork. On Custom Keith Haring art Labels which are Green with Red Art on side 1 and Red with Green Art on side 2. NO Cutouts or promo markings. Includes the Original printed Capitol Inner Sleeve. I believe this is a Direct Metal Master (DMM) First Pressing as indicated by the “DMM” etching in the Matrix / Vinyl Runout markings which read:

CONDITION

The Sleeve is in nice shape. There is some slight shelf wear, edge creasing and corner softening/wear. Super solid with no splits, writing, stains, tears, cutouts, etc. and would rate at least VG+ and maybe better. The Vinyl is in prisinte Glossy condition looking barely played. If you really look closely you can spot a couple light scuffs but still very close to New condition. At least EX visually and really I think Near Mint particularly since it plays pretty much perfectly all through. The labels are also Near Mint.

TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If I provide Play Grades it is done as a courtesy but I only guarantee the Visual Grade. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding. I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:

Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less! If you are not satisfied that a purchase meets my description, I will do what I can to make it right if you give me the chance and work with me! Please feel free to check my feedback.
