This splendid and rare LP from Allegro (LEG-9015, US pressing, puple/gold label, mono) features “the high priestess” of Bach, legendary pianist Rosalyn Tureck in an all-Bach recital, recorded during the years 1949-1951, when she was at the very height of her powers. This is exalted playing by any measure and all those who treasure Bach’s keyboard works will find these performances revelatory.

The exact contents are as follows (all compositions by J.S. Bach):

Partita No. 1 in B-flat Major BWV 825

Italian Concerto BWV 971

Goldberg Variations I – V, BWV 988

Incidentally, the album cover was designed by Frank Daniel. There are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Robert N. Angus, printed in English only.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor wear at corners and slight discoloration, but that is all. Really, this is close to NM. There are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, bends, or other defects, and the jacket remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, an excellent collector’s copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
