Description

You are bidding on a Vinyl LP issue of the Reggae artist, Toots & The Maytals, “Funky Kingston.” This LP was originally released on the Mango-Island Label in 1973 in the UK; this US release came out in 1975 on Island Records. (Island ILPS9330). Please note: The spine of the LP cover shows a date of 1973, but our research points to a US 1975 release, consistent with the information on the record label.

If you need more info, please ask!  If we can help pin it down, we would be glad to do it.  We will be glad to check Matrix and runoff numbers.

This LP contains excellent Reggae music, and you might know that they do a great cover of John Denver’s “Country Roads,” “Louie, Louie,” and a song we knew from Robert Palmer’s cover, “Pressure Drop.”

We purchased this item decades ago, played it (and enjoyed it!), and it has been sitting in our home (vertically) for the last few decades.

The LPs look great and is in excellent condition. The cover is in excellent condition; there is light wear on the corners. There is a cutout notch on the bottom right of the front cover. (See Photos).

Please remember that this album was well taken care of, but it was played as part of our record collection decades ago.

This item has been stored at room temperature, in a smoke free home.  Please see photos of actual item being sold.

Toots and the Maytals: “Funky Kingston” (1975):

“One of the standouts of the genre "Funky Kingston" embodies the best of Reggae and why the music is one of the most enduring. Evoking the warm, tropical beat and vibe characteristic of the sound the music delivers the goods with the trademark playing of repeating guitar chords, melodic audible bass and vocals of carefree goodwill pronounced with the distinct Jamaican tone. An atmosphere of timeless summery elevates this gem above the rest. One of the Reggae classics and an instant fave this is the late Toots Hibbert's lasting legacy and what a gift indeed. Essential. Great album cover too.”
