The Who - Sell Out
* (7 day listing finishing on Tuesday 28th at 9:00pm) *
The first Who album on the Track label
In superb NEAR MINT condition
UK 1967 1st press in MONO
With original POSTER
History:
I bought this album from a neighbour friend of mine in 1969/70. I played it occasionally in the early 70s, but I can't remember having played it since then. It has been carefully stored for decades in its own thick plastic outer sleeve along with the rest of my record collection.
Vinyl:
This is an original UK 1st press in MONO on the Track label, made with thick high-grade vinyl. The LP looks virtually MINT and plays AS NEW! There are a few light spindle marks on the labels but it really hasn’t been played often and not for decades! The vinyl has a lovely deep black sheen, with NO visible surface marks to speak of even when held up to the light. And the sound is fantastic! It plays beautifully ALL the way through. There are NO scratches, NO surface noise and NO distortion from wear. Quiet passages (and there are a few) are just that - quiet! And the loud stuff is full and powerful and clear. The sound is simply superb! This is a genuinely rare 1st pressing in this condition - 612002 A 2-12 1 (Side 1) and 612002 B 1 1 1 (Side 2) stamped by the run-off grooves. To me, this is a final upgrade, as it looks and sounds like a new record and I cannot imagine listening to a better copy.
Labels:
The Track labels on both sides are in EXCELLENT clean condition with a some light spindle marks.
Sleeve:
The original laminated-both-sides Ernest J. Day (Patent Pending) sleeve is in genuinely EXCELLENT condition showing very little of the wear typically associated with handling and shelving and ageing. There are NO corner dents, NO laminate shrinkage, and the original 'pinched' spine at both ends is near perfect with NO creases. The cover is clean and clear on both sides with no significant discolouration, only some minor wear to the laminate sheen and just one faint minor crease on the back which can't even be seen when holding it normally. This sleeve looks fantastic given that it is 44 years old!
PLEASE NOTE: There is just one anomaly: the LP itself is a mono pressing, however the sleeve says it is stereo. I've only just noticed this (having decided to sell it), and I've had the album since 1969/70! However, the ONLY differences between the mono sleeve and this one are minor, JUST the wording on the back and the spine. The mono sleeve has 612 002 MONO in place of 613 002 STEREO (see photo), and on the spine it has TRACK 612.002 in place of TRACK 613.002 (see photo). THE SLEEVES ARE OTHERWISE IDENTICAL. If you can live with this minor discrepancy (as I have without even noticing until now) then go ahead and bid. If you can't, then please don't. As to why this has happened I can only guess: according to Record Collector's Rare Record Price Guide only 1000 copies of this album were issued with a poster, 500 in mono and 500 in stereo. It is possible that some mono copies were packed in stereo sleeves by mistake.
Poster:
The poster is the genuine Osiris original with the glossy front side and matt back side. It is in genuinely EXCELLENT condition. There are NO marks or stains or tears on either side, nor creases other than the proper folds. It looks ALMOST NEW to me. It does, however, have four very neat pin-size holes in the corners where my friend had it pinned up for a while. He took it down very carefully for me, and there are NO tears where the pin holes were made (see photos). It remains in fantastic condition, and apart from the pin holes it looks practically unused!
Inner sleeve:
This is the original lined inner sleeve in EXCELLENT condition.
Final verdict:
A genuinely superb 1st press top copy.
If you are interested, I am also selling another early Who album - an * * EXCELLENT * * 1st press original copy of A Quick One on the Reaction label. Please see my 'Other Items'.
