Island Records is probably the best of the 1960s UK based labels involved in releasing Jamaican music outside of it's Caribbean home, Chris Blackwell's Jamaican connections seem to have given him an advantage over the British based competition, he licensed tracks from Jamaica's foremost producers and labels, Duke Reid, Leslie Kong, Coxson Dodd, King Edwards Derrick Harriott, Justin Yap and Randys amongst them, as well as many worthy tunes from smaller or less well known producers. Although the competition picked up many great tunes, Island always had the edge in variety and often in the quality stakes as well, even their pressings were usually that bit better sounding. The classic Ska and Rocksteady sides released on Island are not only great music, but also true artifacts of this classic, never to be repeated period and essential for any serious collector of Jamaican music.

Visually side A has light scuffing and a few very light scratches, side B has light scuffing and about five small , but moderately deep scratches, this is also a very bad pressing as some of the red and white Island singles can be, I'm not sure if all the copies are bad or whether there was a separate better press.
Side A has quite a noisy start, it then plays with noticeable surface noise that slowly reduces as the track plays and is still a playable copy, side B has a noisy start with a few tiny pops, it plays with moderate surface noise throughout and occasional tiny pops/crackles.
The centre is missing, the labels are slightly dirty and written on.




All records play graded on an Van Den Hul MC2/Michell Techno Arm/Michell Orbe unless otherwise stated.
