The Tomita Planets (Dolby Quadraphonic reel-to-reel tape)

Being offered is the 7" open reel (reel-to-reel, 1/4" tape) album: The Tomita Planets. Produced in 1976 as an RCA "Red Seal" recording, catalog number ERQ1 1919-QF. Manufactured and distributed by Stereotape. Format: 4 track Quadraphonic. Speed: 7-1/2 ips. Recorded with Dolby B encoding. All original materials: tape, reel, box.

Here is a 1970s surround-sound open reel tape, with Dolby. This is a recording produced by the electronic music artist Isao Tomito, being his interpretation of Holst's The Planets, in a tremendously enveloping performance. As you can see from the photo, this reel is full to the edge with tape, for 43:29 of exceptional sound.

This album is rare in open reel form, and nearly impossible to find as a quadraphonic recording.

Note that quadraphonic tapes are unidirectionally played, where the four-channel program occupies all four tracks, and the convention is that the tape is first rewound and then played back to the beginning point (so that the tape ends up being wound for storage in least-stressed state).

Condition:Used, but very well cared for, so in excellent physical condition. Indeed: in almost "new" condition. The only quibble is that the weight of the reel pushed part way through the inner half of the bottom of the box, during its original shipping. Purchased new by me: played only on a high-end tape deck. Stored in dry, climate-controlled conditions. I no longer have an open reel deck, so cannot test this tape, so has to be offered as-is; but I can say that it was just fine when I played it years ago. From a smoke-free, pet-free, child-free home.

Shipping:

I ship to the US only, via the United States Postal Service (The Post Office). I do not ship outside the United States - no exceptions. (Do not waste my time and yours by asking for an exemption.)
Keep in mind that shipping rates have generally escalated due to increases in fuel costs.
Books, sound recordings, and video tape will be sent via USPS media rate. Other goods are shipped via USPS Parcel Post. Choosing less costly shipping methods makes for lower costs for you and makes the acquisition of eBay goods more realistic. Please allow a reasonable amount of time for delivery: in particular, note the eBay annotation for expected delivery times for shipping methods. Shipments which have to travel the full width of the country will necessarily take maximal time, as compared with shipments to an adjoining New England state. USPS has been 100% reliable, so delivery should be certain. Goods will ship the next non-holiday weekday after payment is received.
Goods will be packed to avoid damage in shipment, to the extent reasonable. As a buyer, I would want my goods to arrive in good order, and so I do what I can for you as the buyer to have everything arrive in its condition at ship time.
