The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging.

The Smiths - Full Set of UK 7" Single Releases: 1983 - 1987

This auction is for 19 Smiths 7" vinyl singles which are the original Rough Trade releases, rather than the recent 'Rhino' re-release versions. Whilst the recent 'Rhino' releases are indeed nice to own, it is the original Rough Trade versions which are the most desirable and which have consequently rocketed in value in recent years and are likely to continue to do so. All of these singles are in their original picture sleeves and have been carefully looked after, being from my own collection. Unlike some auctions of this type, this is not an excuse to sell sub-standard condition 7"s by virtue of the fact that they are a full set! The remarkable thing about this auction is that these singles, even after more than 20 years, are all in outstanding condition. Many are near mint and the rest are in at least excellent or strong excellent condition (full details below). There is no writing, tears or other damage on any of the sleeves and no scratches on any of the vinyl. The 'Hand In Glove' 7" is the rare first press with the Manchester contact address on the reverse, and the Sandie Shaw version of 'Hand In Glove' is included along with the version of 'What Difference Does It Make' on which Morrissey re-enacted the cover photo in place of Terence Stamp.

Since these are quite heavy, the postage will be 4.60 within the UK but still extremely good value compared to the cost of buying and having them posted individually. Overseas, the postage will be more expensive but again far less than having them sent separately or in small quantities.

The condition in detail is as follows:

'Hand In Glove' (Cat: RT 131): The rare first-pressing vinyl is very glossy and is in at least strong excellent condition, with only the lightest of 'hairline' surface marks which are seen if the record is held to the light, and the sleeve is also a strong excellent with sharp corners and edges and only a few small regions on the front and back where the delicate surface shine has come away. A superb example of this rare first-press.

'Hand In Glove (Sandie Shaw)' (Cat: RT 130): The vinyl and sleeve are both mint. The record looks unplayed and 'as-new', while the sleeve has only one very light corner bump and no signs of wear.

'This Charming Man' (Cat: RT 136): The vinyl is in strong excellent condition, with only very light 'hairline' surface marks which can be seen if the record is held to the light. The sleeve is in at least excellent condition, with a few extremely light creases which are barely visible.

'What Difference (Terence Stamp Sleeve)' (Cat: RT 146): The vinyl is in strong excellent condition, with only the lightest of surface marks. The sleeve is also strong excellent with no real signs of wear at all.

'What Difference (Morrissey Sleeve)' (Cat: RT 146): The vinyl is in excellent condition, with only a few very light surface marks. The rare sleeve is in near mint condition, with no visible wear at all.

'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' (Cat: RT 156): The vinyl is in strong excellent condition, with only light 'hairline' surface marks in a few places. The sleeve is in near mint condition, with just one light corner bump and otherwise no signs of wear.

'William It Was Really Nothing' (Cat: RT 166): The vinyl is a strong excellent, being very glossy and having no real signs of play. The sleeve, also being in strong excellent condition, has sharp corners and edges and no noticeable wear, retaining its original shiny appearance.

'How Soon Is Now' (Cat: RT 176): The vinyl is in strong excellent condition, with barely any noticeable 'hairline' surface marks. The sleeve is the least well-preserved of all the singles here, being only an excellent minus. The sleeve has some minor signs of wear, with light creases towards the corners and 'ringwear' due to the vinyl impressing upon the sleeve outside.

'Shakespeare's Sister' (Cat: RT 181): The vinyl is a strong excellent, with very few 'hairline' marks at all. The sleeve in is excellent condition with a couple of very light creases.

'That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore' (Cat: RT 186): The vinyl is in near mint condition, with barely any surface marks at all. The sleeve is in strong excellent condition with the very light beginnings of a crease in one corner.

'The Boy With The Thorn In His Side' (Cat: RT 191): The vinyl is in near mint condition, with barely any light surface scuffs. The sleeve is in strong excellent condition, with no significant signs of any wear at all.

'Bigmouth Strikes Again' (Cat: RT 192): The vinyl is in excellent condition, with only some minor surface scuffs in a few places. The sleeve is in excellent condition, but with some light 'indentations' in places and the beginnings of a minor crease.

'Panic' (Cat: RT 193): The vinyl is in near mint condition, with no real signs of wear or surface marks. The sleeve is in excellent condition, with mild 'ringwear' on the reverse but no other significant signs of wear.

'Ask' (Cat: RT 194): The vinyl is in strong excellent condition, with only very light scuffs in one or two places. The sleeve is also a strong excellent with no real signs of wear.

'Shoplifters Of The World Unite' (Cat: RT 195): The vinyl is in mint condition, and looks to be unplayed and as-new. The sleeve is also in mint condition, with no signs of any wear at all.

'Sheila Take A Bow' (Cat: RT 196): The vinyl is in near mint condition, being glossy in appearance with only one or two 'hairline' marks. The sleeve is in strong excellent condition, with only the beginnings of a very mild crease otherwise the sleeve is mint.

'Girlfriend In A Coma' (Cat: RT 197): The vinyl is in excellent condition, with only a few light 'hairline' surface marks. The sleeve is in strong excellent condition, with a very mild impression on the reverse due to the vinyl inside otherwise the sleeve would be mint.

'I Started Something I Couldn't Finish' (Cat: RT 198): The vinyl is in near mint condition with no real surface marks. The sleeve is in strong excellent condition, with no signs of significant wear.

'Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me' (Cat: RT 200): The vinyl is in near mint condition, being highly glossy with only a few light 'hairline' surface marks. The sleeve is in strong excellent condition, with only a minor impression due to the vinyl inside otherwise it would be mint.

The new owner should be very happy with these essential Smiths releases on now-increasingly-rare vinyl.
