These sides are all 1S stampers, except for one side on Record 2 which is a 5S. You won't get a better recording from this series than this one.
The records look great and are in Near Mint condition. The box has some wear on the back so I would grade it a low VG++. The booklet is in great condition.
These were recorded by Decca for RCA in 1965. The sessions were produced by Charles Gerhardt, the man behind a number of totally successful Decca/RCA collaborations. These were recorded in the Walthamstow Town Hall by Kenneth Wilkinson, Decca’s finest engineer, and are world class recordings and performances. All 4 Piano Concertos are here, played by the much missed Earl Wild, as well as the Paganini Rhapsody and Isle of the Dead. Included is a totally fascinating booklet, that, along with an essay about the music, includes a detailed account by Gerhardt of the considerations that went into this enormous project. Folks, this was the Golden Age of Analog; Chesky Records mined some of this material for their very successful reissues.
Grading Scale
NM - near perfect, played rarely if ever.
VG++ - almost like new with only superficial signs of use that dont affect play. Only well cared for records will grade out to VG++.
VG+ - vinyl may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or light scratches that don't affect the sound.
VG - surface noise will be noticeable, but will not overpower the music.
Good,
Good Plus (G+)
or Very Good Minus (VG–)
These records go for 10 to 15 percent of the Near Mint value, if you are lucky.
Good does not mean bad! The record still plays through without skipping, so it can serve as filler until something better comes along. But it has significant surface noise and groove wear, and the label is worn, with significant ring wear, heavy writing, or obvious damage caused by someone trying to remove tape or stickers and failing miserably. A Good to VG– cover has ring wear to the point of distraction, has seam splits obvious on sight and may have even heavier writing, such as, for example, huge radio station letters written across the front to deter theft.
