All LP's house in thick individual red sleeves with thick inner sleeves. Nice felt bottom so it stays firm and does not scratch any surface.

Still after all these years, THE final word on Rolling Stones Audiophile pressings. Includes these classic albums: The Rolling Stones, 12 x 5, Out Of Our Heads, Aftermath, Between The Buttons, Their Satanic Majesties Request, Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed and Get Yer Ya's Ya's Out, Hot Rocks.

The original master Rolling Stones tapes, from which the music in THE ROLLING STONES collection was transferred, were meticulously tracked-down by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab in both England and America. Altogether, more than 60 boxes of recording tapes were examined and auditioned, until the genuine original masters were discovered.

The first three albums ("The Rolling Stones", "12x5", and "Out Of Our Heads") were originally recorded in the mono format, while the next six albums were recorded in true stereo. (next it talks about "Hot Rocks" being a compilation of mono and stereo tracks that they "transferred from the original master tapes...carefully spliced together by MFSL's engineers.") We exclusively utilized the original (British) Decca master recording tapes, except for "12x5" and "Out Of Our Heads", which were originally recorded in America and first released by London Records.

Their Satanic Majesties Request 50th Anniversary box set:
This set is one of the more straightforward to explain, since it comprises the stereo and mono versions of the album, newly remastered by by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering. Both mixes are pressed onto vinyl (lacquer cut by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios) and are supplied on two hybrid SACDs (super audio CDs).

Universal are calling this a ’50th Anniversary Special Audiophile Edition’ and while the term ‘audiophile’ is used so liberally these days by labels and their PR partners it’s all but lost its meaning, the inclusion of the very niche SACD format does justify it in this case.

So to be clear, this is a four-disc set that delivers two vinyl records and two hybrid SACDs – these aren’t being made available separately. Hybrid means that you can play the discs on standard CD players, although you will lose the hi-res element and will only be accessing a standard 44.1 kHz/16 bit stereo version of the new remaster.

It should be noted that Their Satanic Majesties Request has been issued on SACD before. The out-of-print ABKCO Rolling Stones CD reissues of 2002 were all hybrid SACDs although that fact was rather unplayed at the time and you have to look hard to see mention of it on the packaging. Also, Universal Japan issued an SACD of this title in 2011, which was reissued as recently as 2014.

This new 2017 edition of the album comes in special eight-panel gatefold packaging that folds out into a square (see image above). It also restores the original lenticular front cover, something last year’s mono box set failed to do.

The 50th anniversary comes with a modest 20-page booklet, which includes an essay by Rob Bowman and features Michael Cooper’s photos from original cover shoot. This set is described as a “limited edition pressing” that comes with “hand-numbered sleeves”.

Exile on Main Street 2010 remastered 2xLP:

Double vinyl LP pressing. 2010 reissue of the classic Stones album Regarded as one of the greatest albums in Rock 'n' Roll history and one of the most defining of the Stones' catalogue. Upon its release more than three decades ago, Exile on Main Street innovatively wove varying musical genres, instruments and even artists into a compelling rhythmic masterpiece. The original 18-track double-album was recorded in various stages at multiple locations, including Olympic Studios in London, Keith Richard's mansion Nellcote in France, and in Los Angeles where the literal Main Street influenced the album title. These atypical circumstances surrounding the recording process greatly affected the album's outcome which was highly reflective and influenced by the sociopolitical turbulence that marked the late '60s and early '70s.
