This is a rare and COMPLETE UK pressing of the great LIVE AT LEEDS. Finding a complete original pressing in this wonderful condition is very rare, and makes this a very special chance to own a genuinely rare original pressing with brilliant clear sound. 

Finding a clear sounding pressing in great condition is near impossible, and this vinyl is an outstanding example with crystal clear audio.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! - TOP AUDIO 

Live At Leeds is a stunning live recording and also an incredibly sensitive piece of vinyl. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like ‘Summertime Blues’. I am a huge fan of Live At Leeds and also a highly critical of the audio performance. I just cant stand to hear a pressing that is worn or plays with anything other than great clear sound, and it is so hard to find a 1st pressing with a great audio performance. 

I am pleased to say that this ULTRA RARE pressing plays through with great, un disturbed audio. This great record plays up to the high visual grading and beyond. Strong sound free of any loud pops or clicks and no distortion. The channels are clean and unstressed; it has only been played a couple of times. There is barely any light occasional static (as found on all vinyls) and any that can be found is very light. The audio is brilliant strong and clear, its is a stunning listen. I will give a detailed account below:

This great sounding 1st pressing starts with barely any detectable static in the run ins and intro to 'Young Man Blues', a variable track that can still be plagued by crackle, hiss and static. Just great clear sound, the track plays superbly with not a single loud click or pop. The audio is superb. There is some very light and very occasional static only. 

Again, the intro to 'Substitute' sounds very clear and the whole of the first side really plays with superbly clear audio throughout. Any surface sound is extremely quiet and infrequent. Absolutely no loud pops or clicks, and certainly not a hint of distortion. There are hardly even any noticeable static tics at all. 'Summertime Blues' sounds superb, with crystal clear audio, and the raw audio effects that Townsend worked so hard at achieving can really be heard here. Its sounds like you are there with The Who. 

'Shakin All Over' comes in again with incredibly clear bright sound, I could detect no static and no distortion. I can confirm this whole album plays without a hint of distortion what so ever, and thats incredibly rare for any original pressing of Live At Leeds. Superb. 

'My Generation' kicks in side 2. with amazing clear audio. There is very little background static at the very start and still no loud pops or clicks. There is the occasional light tic but nothing repetitive or that noticeable. A single dull pop in the middle only. 

I'm happy to say that the standard stays as high throughout the second side. So often heavily distorted and affected by clicks and hiss, it plays through with amazing clarity and superb bright sound.  Virtually no audible static at all, no loud pops, clicks or even any tics. The long outro plays with just crystal clear audio. An amazing audio performance.  'Magic Bus' rounds of the album again with great clear sound. A couple of static tics and not a single loud pop or click and amazing clear audio, this really great performance. The outro is crystal clear.

This great record plays with staggering power, great audio nothing obtrusive to distract from the over all enjoyment of this great record. Virtually no surface or static noise between the tracks, even in the long quiet sections it is clean, crisp and rich. One these 1st pressings there is some slight buzzing from the bass guitar in a few places that later pressings had edited out, here the audio is brilliant in its full glory.

The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals, which come through with tremendous power and clarity. As is the same with the keyboard layering and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear. On the whole this lp plays with superb, clear bright rich audio.  

The sound quality is consistent and extremely high, I would give an overall audio grading at NEAR MINT!

THE RECORD – Visual Grading

A stunning piece of glossy vinyl, this rare 1st press is comes with amazing deep clear grooves.  In daylight it looks unmarked. A couple of faint whispy paper handling marks only, and need to be seen under an intense spotlight, it cant be seen in normal light. A stunning example that is barely played!

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING: Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.  

THE LABELS

This ultra rare pressing comes with the 1st press WHITE labels in GREAT condition; no marks or writing, no discernible  spindle wear, and NO discernible spindle traces. Making this a true rarity, especially in this condition.  

A lovely set of labels. Absolutely no marks or writing what so ever, and NO brush marks that these labels seem prone to, and no spindle wear. Great all round examples!

THE COVER 

Printed and made by MacNeil Press Ltd., London, S.E.1, these thin card un laminated covers of Live At Leeds are extremely prone to wear. These covers usually faired very badly, with serious ring wear and scuffs along the edges, tears, folds and serious creasing. 

This Ultra Rare BLACK print cover is in stunning condition, with minimal scuffing to the corners, and virtually no rubbing along the edges, and that is virtually un heard of for Live At Leeds. The opening edges are very square and un frayed, again unheard of.  There are a few light indentations and scuffs only. All round, this is a really great example, with some very minor handling wear only. This cover would be hard to better.     

This ORIGINAL BLACK print COVER grades at EXCELLENT.

This great pressing of Live at Leeds comes with the collection of twelve inserts in NEAR MINT condition, and include :-

- small 'notice' insert - states mr lambert - who. later ones 'who' is not stated

- small delivery note - on thin 'typewriter' paper which shows what is original typed like text.

- my generation lyrics - on thin paper with 3 * later ones have 2 stars

- king's agency - signature of barry Perkins is shown in dark blue biro colour (later ones are not)

- new action ltd action logo in blue (later ones in light grey)

- high numbers typed payment - on thin paper and is folded along the central line (later ones are not) - on yellow paper

- premier talent - on yellow paper (later ones are not) - the received stamp shows all detail (some detail missing on later ones)

- emi records - printed on thinner paper

- marquee club payments - handwritten details are in blue

- small 'picture of the who' not the 'dark' print option - has glossy front

- guitar overhead - folded shows black writing on the rear

- large marquee poster - correct early print (later ones have the live at leeds poster, only the 1st pressings have the large marquee poster) - not shiny as later ones are

THE POSTER

Very 1st pressing of Live At Leeds came with the poster stating MARQUEE. This poster wa almost immediately replaced with one saying LEEDS. 

This ULTRA RARE 1st pressing comes with the original poster in NEAR MINT condition. No tears, stains, no creasing and NO seem splits at all. 

THE INNER

Original British Patent inner sleeve in EXCELLENT condition. No tears, stains, just some light creasing and NO seem splits at all.

And don't be fooled, these are completely different to all other inner sleeves from the UK pressings of Live At Leeds. These inners are themselves rare and so hard to find with out heavy wear, graffiti, tears and splitting.

RARITY

Live At Leeds has been re produced in reasonably large quantities, being one of the most iconic live albums of the 20th century. On saying that, original pressings were produced in very small numbers, and finding an original UK pressing in great condition is unbelievably rare. It is an extremely rare collectable, it is so hard to find a pressing with great audio performance. 

Only the 1st ever pressings came with the Black Text Cover, and they were made in a tiny print run. Anyone who has tried to find one of these Black Text Covers will know just how rare they are, and if you do find one at all it will inevitably be ripped, stained and heavily creased due to its extremely fragile construction. 

The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is a brilliant example. With a great cover like this, a great piece of vinyl, a rare 1st press inner sleeve and all the inserts, this an incredible rarity!

Also, there are numerous variations in the 12 inserts, with only the 1st pressings having the rarest collection, as found here.

A Live At Leeds 1st pressing in any type of condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. Any Live At Leeds examples with a record in this type of condition, that plays superbly is incredibly rare. MINT: Virtually unplayed. The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover is pristine.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover.

V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.
