Description

An original 1969 stereo pressing of Big Hits on that iconic unboxed DECCA label. Matrix 4W/4W. Stampers 1-CU/1-CU, 1st mother is good provenance from an audio perspective. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original '69 cover with peep-hole. Please note that the early copies have the photo page booklet stapled inside the cover - on later reissues the booklet is loose. Also included is the correct blue and white Decca inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks per side. Absolutely nothing concerning or heavy looking just low-level type stuff. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. All the hits are here - what's not to like! But the great thing about these early copies is that they are pressed heavy and were built to last. Both up-tempo tracks and the low-key tracks are delivered with aplomb, but also cleanly without background. Interference is largely absent. Expect a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. It's a great little player and you cannot help but be impressed. "Satisfaction" will often have been played to death..not here..it's a perfect delivery. Even the really fussy track 'As Tears Go By' plays clean and there's little to find fault with. Ditto "Lady Jane"... Superdoops!
Cover (Ex) Bit of a stunner - many of these greatest hits are so popular they mostly appear with a good bit of wear. But this copy is preserved to a very high standard. Lovely clean and flat front cover. There's one slight crease in the bottom right and a tiny amount of discolouration at the opening. But other than that the front cover really is a beaut! Worth noting that the front opening panel is still very nice and rigid with hardly any edge wear at all - now that's quite unusual. The rear is even better - there's literally nothing I can spot that's detrimental at all - no ageing at all with vibrant colours. The interior is looking very smart indeed and far in excess of what usually surfaces. The opening panel has lovely deep blacks with little sign of wear or fade. The interior pages are all intact without heavy thumbing. The only one very minor issue is that one photo page has a scratch down in the bottom corner..that's literally all I can spot. There's barely any edge wear at all and the openings are still sharp. The spine is 100% intact and overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. What an example!
