Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. - The Fudge’s heavy-rock sound was fairly distinct, and when they clicked it was powerful. The sound that greatly impacted the subsequent organ-driven hard rock mayhem of Deep Purple and Uriah Heep is here amongst the flashing energy displayed on "In The Beginning"
Side one of Near the Beginning, is notably a self-produced affair. Having broken clean from their original producer, the band’s positive adjustments are immediately felt, and when their discography is listened to in succession this fourth record radiates a sizeable atmosphere of liberation.
Yes, it gets off immediately to a rousing rock ‘n’ soul start with a take on “Shotgun.” Part of the Fudge’s appeal is how they could choose a song that’s popularity had become ubiquitous (i.e. overplayed) and give it a fresh sound, like one of their own.
“Shotgun” is the Fudge’s version that focuses on heaviness rather than in simply attempting to replicate soul feeling in a rock context (the undoing of many ‘60s bands).
Mark Stein’s vocals generally eschew over-emotive straining, his organ gushes throughout and Vinnie Martell is in the throes of wah-pedal frenzy. Tim Bogert holds it down and gets a few licks in as Appice’s drumming travels through expressiveness and right down to being busy; others will surely find him running roughshod with insensitivity and obnoxiousness, but that’s rock ‘n’ roll for ya’.
“Some Velvet Morning.” is one of the albums highlights. The full-tilt jam-sections are welcome (Bogert’s distorted bass is a treat.) A magnificent psyche and soft jewel with brilliant vocals. One of the best by The Fudge ... the psych magic is working pretty good during this melodic and beautiful track.
“Some Velvet Morning” segues directly into Appice’s original “Where is Happiness,” and is the beginning of an experimental zone that swiftly builds into a likeable hunk of heavy psych with harmony vocals, while the mid-section guitar soloing is pleasing, while drummer Carman Appice’s thunder takes the reigns as the cut fades out to conclude side one.
The B-side is one long epic, a 23-plus minute charge of HEAVY Fudge recorded live at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. the track is a flash of group power, highlighted by Tim Bogert’s distortion-peddle bass soloing), while the band flares-up in rudimentary blues-rocking ... a true testimonial in enlightenment that reflects where these cats’ smartness was at.
