The Brew: Crossroads 7" Oak Records acetate
This is a 7" acetate of two demo tracks - "Crossroads" (a cover of the Robert Johnson song, probably best-known from the version by Cream) and "Play Your Tune" (which is believed to be an original composition) recorded by the pre-Camel band The Brew, which consisted of Andy Latimer (guitar), Andy Ward (drums) and Doug Ferguson (bass). An exact recording date for these tracks is unknown but I believe that it dates from either 1969 or 1970.
The tracks are believed to have been recorded at R.G. Jones studio in Wimbledon and then cut as a 7" acetate on their collectable Oak label. As the scans show, the artist and track titles have been written (in an unknown hand) on adhesive labels which have then been put on the acetate.
The acetate is in very good condition for its age and there are no noticeable marks on the playing surface of either side of the disc. As with any acetate, some surface noise is audible before the tracks begin but there are no audible clicks or pops during the music and there is little sign of the acetate having been played more than a handful of times. It has been in my collection for a number of years and in that time has been played just twice.
