Camel 1st LP UK Original First Pressing MCA MUPS 473 EX+ Superb Vinyl
1st Pressing of their 1973 debut album, simply entitled Camel. UK pressing MCA MUPS 473. Importantly this is with the blue / black record labels, rather than any later second pressing on purely black labels (also MUPS 473) or any later catalogue numbers such as MCF 2665 or MCL1601
The matrix no’s are:
Side 1: 7-LNMG-275-2L 1 B (Matrix stamper no.1)
Side 2: 7-LNMG-276-1L 1 B (Matrix stamper no.1)
Hardly ever comes up for sale in the form of this very first blue/ black label original pressing. This is also has the lowest possible stampers of B and B in the Decca BUCKINGHAM sequence. One of the very first ever produced!!

VINYL: EX+
The LP is graded at EX+ visually. Thick vinyl weighing at an impressive 156g. Nice gloss shine and retains much of the original lustre. This is a superb copy which would easily grade as NM visually except for a small (1cm) and superficial (it does not sound) mark on track 1 of side 2. I cannot emphasise enough that although visible, this is a very minor condition point given that it is clearly superficial and is not detrimental to the sound. Overall this an absolutely fantastic copy which would be difficult to upgrade.
Playback: EX+ to Near MINT.
The LP lies flat on the deck, almost undetectable vertical movement when the LP is rotating. I played this LP carefully on my Project desk with Ortofon cartridge and the results were astonishing. It plays very dynamically and clearly, with no distortion. Any background noise is very minimal and not intrusive. Just a beautiful and superb listen throughout - wonderful audio!
LABELS: MINT
I can see no spider lines or marks whatsoever. Flawless condition!
INNER SLEEVE: EX
Correct original lined Decca type sleeve used for this LP. Slight general discolouration with age (no spots) but in nice solid EX condition.
OUTER SLEEVE: EX-
Overall the sleeve is in EX- condition. There is generally just light wear, having a few light creases and some minor discolouration and light rubbing to the edges. There is relatively little ring wear. A very small area in the top right corner of the back cover has some rubbing just below where the catalogue no. is displayed, perhaps where a price sticker or similar label has been removed. Compared to most copies the back sleeve is however generally clean with only very feint ringwear.
Overall - This is a really nice original example with very first 1B 1B Mother stampers of this amazingly rare 1st press of this LP. The vinyl is in fantastic condition and it plays amazingly well. I grade fairly but conservatively, please bid with confidence and thanks for looking!

All records are been placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping. Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s
