The Beatles YESTERDAY AND TODAY “Butcher Cover” (Capitol T-2553, mono, 1966)
Here is an opportunity to own a very clean, very collectible copy of the one of the MOST collectible records in the world!
Current owner is Neal Umphred, famous collectible records guide author.
Overall, the jacket is a strong VG+ with a little wear and scuffing but no serious ring-wear. There is a 1½ inch seam-split in the middle of the spine and a 2 inch seam-split in the lower right corner.
The original owner wrote his name in light ink on the back cover. It is ¾ of the way up along the left side and approximately 2 inches long.
The paste-over is in excellent condition: the four corners are square and there has been NO attempt at peeling anywhere. Therefore, the original ‘butcher cover slick’ beneath is untouched Mint.
The record is Spizer number 2553MR1B.
The labels are M- with very little trailing around the spindle-hole, indicating light play or very careful play. Unfortunately, the previous owner’s name is once again written in light ink on the red of the rainbow on one side only. The vinyl itself is a strong VG+: still glossy and no serious issues.
Overall, this is an excellent copy: when you hold it for a while, the flaws don’t seem as big a deal. This is one of the strongest “used” copies of a butcher that I have seen in years and will make the winning bidder a very happy collector, indeed.
Opinion: It is the existence of the “second sate” cover that gives this album the history as the collectible that it is. Buy this and put it in your collection as a KEEPER before someone buys it and peels it and ruins its history . . .
