For sale is a UK 1st pressing MONO of the 'White Album' LP. This is a wonderful example of one of The Beatles finest and most collectable LP's, with a low numbered top opening sleeve. This record would have been purchased on the second day of release and considering approximately 300,000 monos were pressed before the stereo editions this is a relatively low number in comparison.

The low number cover is in wonderful condition, grading at EXCELLENT with some very light lamination lift on the spine and on the front cover over the embossed ‘The Beatles’ (which every copy has). The inner flipback seem on the right hand side has a few minor horizontal creases and a small yellowing stain (which doesn’t look as dark as the picture) and is a mere blip in comparison with the rest of the sleeve. No lifting or flaking anywhere else, overall it’s a very solid clean and crisp cover, which so many copies are not due to the fact it was white! It now has an overall very light cream complexion which is common for this record.

The two heavyweight vinyl’s are in EXCELLENT condition on all four sides and play with superb audio giving a punchy mono sound throughout. Each side has a few hairlines and the standard sleeve rub, but this is only seen under strong light and does not affect the sound quality. There are no scratches, deep needle skates or chips. Both records have been very carefully looked after and benefit from having a professional clean recently.

The lovely clean UK dark Apple labels are graded EXCELLENT + with minimal spindle wear and no writing, stains or blemishes. The KT Tax Code is vibrant and present on both discs and all four labels carry ‘Sold in the UK’ text and ‘An EMI Recording’.

There has been much debate over the years as to whether having ‘An EMI Recording’ on all four sides or not makes an early or late pressing. Some have both, some have none and some are mixed. After some research it will appear that when pressed the records were delivered from the plants and then inserted into sleeves at random with early stampers going into high numbered sleeves and vice versa. I have seen a high numbered copy with no ‘An EMI Recording’ and another copy with ‘An EMI Recording’ on side 3 and not on side 4. This set was bought new in 1968 and has not been upgraded in any way.

The black die cut inner sleeves are in VERY GOOD+ condition with no tears but some creasing. The records have been kept in new poly lined sleeves for a number of years to professionally maintain the vinyl.

The poster is in MINT- condition with no pin holes, writing, creases or tape residue. Printed by Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd on thicker durable paper it looks almost brand new with strong colours and clear lyrics, this poster has had very minimal use.

The four pictures are printed on thicker card found only on first pressings and are in MINT- condition and retain the darker rich colours with only very light spotting visible at close inspection on all four. Again importantly no pin holes, writing, creasing or tape residue.

This LP will be very carefully packaged. The vinyl, poster, inner sleeves and pictures are, and have been kept separately. The cover is kept in a 12” PVC record sleeve, poster and sleeves in a self-residue 12” sleeve and the photos in a clear A4 sleeve.

GRADING SYSTEM:  In order to assist everyone who buys and sells rare discs, Record Collector magazine has originated a set of standards for the condition of second-hand records, I have added a (+) or (-) to my grading’s where applicable.

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
