In February 1973, George Harrison, Apple Records, and Capitol Records retaliated by filing a massive $15 million lawsuit that effectively shut down the Alpha Omega operation. However, because this bootleg proved there was an astronomical public demand for a definitive Beatles retrospective, Capitol Records rushed to counter it. This exact legal battle directly triggered the creation and release of the official, legendary greatest hits compilations: The Beatles 1962–1966 (The Red Album) and The Beatles 1967–1970 (The Blue Album).
