For auction is a superb sounding very rare true 3rd Mono U.K. press of the Beatles debut album.
These true Third press copies were very limited in number - research suggests only 5000 were pressed. They were issued immediately after the fabled Black and Gold first and second presses. Many more of those were pressed - 25,000 plus.
The third press labels have the new look Black and Yellow Parlophone design but with the same layout of text as the earlier copies. What was soon noticed was an extra 33 1/3 on the label, hence the short life span before a revised label was created.
The original Ernest J Day sleeve is a strong VG+ with only minor discolouration and wear. The spine is fully intact with fully legible text.
.No writing or tears to the sleeve. Very decent condition fold backs.
The original Use Emitex inner sleeve is in excellent condition. I have supplied all a new archival inner sleeve
The record labels are in excellent condition with barely a mark
What is particularly significant about this copy is that the record was pressed using incredibly early stampers. These are 1GR and 1M - basically the 12th and the 4th stampers made. Most ‘Black and Gold’ first issues were pressed with later stampers. This copy must have been pressed incredibly early in the run, but with a delay to apply the labels.
Visually the record, both sides, is a strong VG+, with only a handful of very minor scuffs and wispy marks visible under bright light. Otherwise the vinyl is beautifully clean and shiny.
Sonically it is even better. Both sides play superbly with only some very minor crackles in the run-in to both sides and between a few of the tracks. Otherwise, no clicks , sticks, skips or jumps. Just the powerful original Mono sound as the Band and Producer intended.
Therefore a super condition wonderful sounding very rare and very early copy of a truly iconic album.
