THIS IS THE SECOND ISSUE WITH THE CORRECTED ‘NORTHERN SONGS, SONG CREDITS.
Summary:
On the Black and Gold Parlophone Label this is the **MONO** version of The Beatles FIRST UK Album, considered to be one the most collectible UK Beatles album of all time.
This Rare MONO Vinyl LP is the SECOND PRESSING released in the UK on the 22nd March 1963 on on the BLACK with GOLD Print PARLOPHONE Label, with the corrected Northern Songs Publishing credits, with the exception of Please Please Me & PS I Love You, which remained credited to Dick James Music Ltd
Also Included with this album, is a very nice 8”x 7.5” black & white print featuring Brian Epstein in the record department of his Fathers store in Liverpool holding a copy of The Beatles debut album, Please Please Me mono LP
Both sides of the Black and Gold Parlophone record labels are in respectable Very Good Plus condition, the gold text, and the black background of the Parlophone labels show no major damage, all that is visible are just a couple of light rub marks on the side one record label, just above the Parlophone wording, and a few signs of play to the centre spindle holes, and also some discolouration around the centre spindle holes. The Gold printed text on both labels remain clear and legible.
Matrix and Stamper information:
Side 1 matrix is: XEX 421-1N and Side 2: XEX 422-1N.
Side 1 stampers: 1/GP and Side 2: 12 GH.
Both sides of the HEAVYWEIGHT Vinyl Disc are also in respectable Very Good Plus condition. both Vinyl surfaces are very glossy, showing a few light surface hairline scratches to both sides, these surface scratches are not feelable and do not affect the play quality in any way.
The album has been carefully played through ALL the tracks, and the Sound Quality is superb, the LP plays without faults, there are NO skips, clicks, or pops, and very little background noise, the disc produces a superb sound quality, dispite the surface hairline scratches described above, also the LP sits 100% flat on the turntable.
The vinyl LP comes in its ORIGINAL Polythene lined ‘Use Emitex…; inner bag, the inner bag is in Excellent condition, there are no seam splits or tearing, just the usual light creasing.
….And the album is housed in it’s ORIGINAL Laminated ERNEST J DAY Flip Back Sleeve, printed with a large mono to the top right hand corner of the front of the sleeve, and Angus McBean to the bottom right hand corner, near to the edge of the front of the sleeve.
The first issue sleeve is in Very Good condition, the front panel is very clean and glossy, and shows just a couple of laminate pinches. The opening edge has minimal wear and is flat. The top and bottom edges of the sleeve show just light rub marks, and are free from any splitting.
The Spine Edge is UNDAMAGED and the printed wording ‘Please Please Me – The Beatles’ is clearly legible. There are small corner bumps to all four corners.
The Reverse Panel of the sleeve has suffered light water damage, and has resulted in light staining, more noticeable at the top, and the gate edge. All three flipbacks show light creases, and a small area of paper loss next to the catalogue number, otherwise all printed text and track listing are unfaded, there is no handwriting to any part of this sleeve.
Not in Top condition, but nevertheless an overall respectable example of The Beatles Debut album, with the corrected Northern Song credits, and with superb sound quality. This album will soon be 50 years old in March 2013.
