Summary:
The most OBSCURE Original UK Lennon Album, ‘UNFINISHED MUSIC NO. 1 TWO VIRGINS’ was John’s 1st UK Solo Album release in1968. Not surprisingly, it caused much of a stir at the time due to the nude content of the album cover and the experimental nature of the music content. A major obstacle was the record company, who refused to release it unless the pictures were changed. Eventually the album was distributed by Track Records in the UK - with one condition - that it was wrapped in a brown paper bag, to cover the offending nude scenes, but even with approval, the record company printers would not print it. In addition many record shops refused to stock the album, and it therefore only sold around 5,000 copies, not even entering the charts. Even the music press opposed it and no editor would accept any of the adverts. It was the first Solo Beatles album to be deleted by EMI.
The Naked Photographs were taken in early October 1968 in the basement of Ringo Starr’s property in Montague Square London, where John set up a camera using a delayed shutter release, taking the Photographs himself.
Album Description:
Released by APPLE UK on 29th November 1968, this Original first pressing UK STEREO Vinyl LP is on the Dark Green Apple Label, with the ‘Track Records’ logo, with ‘Sold in UK….’ and ‘Mfd in UK’ printed to both record labels.
Both sides of the record labels are in undamaged Mint condition. Beautiful unmarked record labels, the previous owner played the LP just once.
Matrix and Stamper information:
Side 1 matrix: SAPCOR 2A-1 and Side 2: SAPCOR 2B-1
Side 1 stampers: 1 O and Side 2: 1 O.
Both sides of the heavyweight vinyl disc are in immaculate as new Mintcondition – the vinyl LP looks as it did when released some 46 years ago, simply amazing.
The Vinyl LP comes in its original Black Die Cut Inner Bag, and is in undamaged Near Mint condition, no seam splits or tears, just mild creases.
…And is housed in it’s original and immaculate snow white fully Laminated Picture Sleeve, featuring John and Yoko baring all on both sides. The reverse of the Stereo sleeve is printed 'Apple Records May 1968’, ‘Made in Merrie England’ and ‘Photographs by John Lennon’also a quote by Paul McCartney
The pure white, Fully Laminated sleeve is a beautiful pristine example, it would be very difficult to find a better one, and in Mint Minus condition. As you will see from the scans provided, both sides of the sleeve are very noticeably pure white and undamaged, as is the Spine Edge. There are only very mild signs of record storage to the front and reverse of the sleeve, and a small laminate bubble area to the left side of the sleeve, this occurs during the manufacturing process of the sleeve. All edges and corners are perfect.
The reverse panel of the sleeve is in the same condition as the front panel, pure white, with no yellowing or age discolouration, and no laminate lifting.
This is without doubt the best condition Two Virgins Album seen for many years, and very controversial John Lennon collectable vinyl LP.
