Here is a once-in-a-lifetime offering: the three records released by Perspective Sound Records, Tulsa, OK; their complete catalogue. First, "The "Tri-Lads," a high school singing trio whom Sonny Gray, owner of Perspective Sound, recorded on 6/4/57. The group consisted of Bill Ragan, Bill Miller, and Jim Fornier. The record was re-released in 1958 by the regional label, Bullseye Records, which sold more than the original, Perspective release. This is an excellent, and very scarce, example of early, white doowop. Second: "The Accents" with lead vocal David Gates, Russell Bridges (Leon Russell) on piano, Don Kimmel on drums, and Gerald Goodwin on stand-up base. This record was recorded on 12/10/57 and released in January, 1958. It shot to #1 on the Tulsa charts, as well as several regional charts, as a double-sided hit, and over the years one or both sides were re-released or covered by a half-dozen, or so, labels. This is an ultimate example of a the late-1950s garage "teener" record. Third: the final Perspective Sound release by "The Vibes...Vocals By Ronnie Franklin (a pseudonym used by Gates)", that has become a highly sought-after record by rockabilly fans throughout the world. This record is so popular that it has been reissued a couple of times and even sold (by unscrupulous dealers) as originals; however, this one is the real McCoy! Gray told me that Gates ordered only 100 copies of this record, and they were never sold in record stores, only off the bandstand of the dances he performed at.

Now, for the good part. All three records, vinyl and labels, are in M- condition as they were acquired from Perspective Sound Records (the only copies, Gray told me, that were left in his files) in 2007 while I was writing my book on "Tulsa Bands and Musicians, 1955-1975" (see note below). The plain sleeves that the 45s were in are also included.

PLEASE NOTE MY VISUAL RECORD GRADING SCALE:

SS (Still Sealed): Unopened, still in original shrink-wrap in original condition unless noted differently.

Mint: I do not use this grade.

NM or M- (Near Mint or Mint Minus): Almost as produced except for superficial things like paper sleeve rubs or light handling. Label will have full gloss and color as produced.

VG++ (Very Good Plus-Plus): A well-cared-for record, but the vinyl will display a few noticeable imperfections such as a few light marks or scuffs that cannot be felt to the touch. Label will also have some color and/or gloss fading or light wear; any other distractions will be noted in the label description.

VG+ (Very Good Plus): Still a well-cared-for record, vinyl has a few more noticeable imperfections than VG++ that cannot be felt to the touch. May display some original gloss. Label can show some, but not large, areas of wear; any other distractions will be noted in the label description. NOTE: this is still a very acceptable grade for most collectors.

VG (Very Good): A used but still reasonable copy. Vinyl will have several moderate and/or one or two major flaws such as scratches that can be felt to the touch, but the record will play through with some ticks and possibly other surface noise, nothing that overwhelms the sound. Label gloss may be completely gone, color fading, moderate wear, any other distractions will be noted in the label description.

VG- (Very Good Minus): Vinyl will have some major imperfections along with visible groove wear but will still play through. Label will have heavy wear, no gloss, color faded, any other distractions will be noted in the label description.

FR/PR (Fair/Poor):  A record with major problem(s). I usually do not list records in these grades unless it is a very scarce/rare record that is highly sought-after. Such a record’s condition, along with its flaws, will be described in detail.
