Description
For sale is an undocumented, circa mid 1960s garage psych ep by a Washington D.C. band called "The British Accents." On a private press, no name burgundy label, MM 255 A/B.
I recently uncovered this in an estate in northwest Washington D.C., which the family had lived in since the 1950s. The 45 is signed by the band members, and dedicated to a "Nancy" who lived in the house. After researching it extensively, I can find no other example of this anywhere, Popsike, Collectorsfrenzy, Discogs, Google, etc. My guess is that it was a small vanity press, likely just for the band members and, in this case, a girl they wanted to impress. The band does cracking versions of Midnight Hour, I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone, Endless Summer and a superb original song, "Maybe," which has echoes of The Animals' "House of The Rising Sun." Condition is VG+... a little background noise in parts, but mostly only audible in between songs. It is very rare in these days of crate diggers, Discogs, etc., to find any extant "lost" psych 45s, but here you are. This is definitely among the rarest, if not the rarest, of DC/DMV-area garage band psych recordings. In desperate need of being comped.
