PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. RAMSES
GLASS TOP COFFIN
Germany - (spaceship) VERTIGO 6360 115
MINTY CLEAN ....Rare 1975 VERTIGO label original pressing in specially designed die-cut gatefold cover...the second Ramses, issued just after their "Space Hymns" album..."Glass Top Coffin" was only issued on the spaceship Vertigo label ...
Includes the scarce all black original inner sleeve
Many years ago Martin Raphael was in his car when something happened that totally changed his life. He said he had a vision of Ramases (Ramasses) who told him that he was the reincarnation of the long dead Egyptian Pharaoh and that his mission, should he choose to accept it, was to spread the truth of the universe through his music.
As you can imagine Martin’s life was never quite the same again. He adopted the name Ramases, dressed according to his new persona, and set out to fulfil his supernatural assignment. However strange this story sounds Ramases secured a record contract with CBS. His wife Dorothy Frost became Selket the Egyptian goddess who took the form of a scorpion to protect one of the canopic jars, in her case the one containing the intestines, of those seeking the afterlife. Together they set out on their musical journey.
Glass Top Coffin was, in fact, the second album from Ramases, the first being Space Hymns, which arrived on the Vertigo label...Glass Top Coffin represented a shift away from some of the more overtly religious themes, and chanting that was on Space Hymns. It was very much another concept album, perhaps even a space opera.
Like the debut, there's clearly a concept buried in here, though the apparent references to aliens ("Golden Landing") and religion ("God Voice") are again largely lost on us. Not that it matters since the set's full of seductive melodies and some wonderful vocal performances, including the intriguing Ramases-Sel duet "Now Mona Lisa". As much as we like "Space Hymns", "Glass Top Coffin" is even better and while musical comparisons are always frought with danger, this time around tracks such as the pretty "Long, Long Time" and "Saler Man" found Ramases and Sel pulling off a credible, low-budget take on The Moody Blues (had they been middle aged central heating salesmen). Tracks such as "Mind Island" and the spare "Only The Loneliest Feeling" seem to give the whole album an air of sad and dignified resignation which only makes the album all the more fascinating. Designed by Ramases and artist Dave Field, the album also sports one the incredible custom designed die-cut phantasy gatefold covers of the 70's.
Apparently Ramases wanted another fancy cover (like the one Roger Dean designed for Space Hymns [also on Vertigo]), but there was some miscommunication, and the result is this quite stunning album cover. They got the die-cut gatefold part right, but it was something about the design of the cut-out that wasn't exactly the way Ramases had in mind. The other-worldly space-music, the beautiful album cover, and the mystery of Ramases' life combine to make one of the most intriguing and fascinating albums on the Vertigo label...
