Description
TOM WAITS
SPECIAL PROMOTION PACKAGE
Island (1986)
This is an unusual item. It's a slipcase (1.5cm thick) containing 3 discs & 2 card stiffeners. It was obviously cobbled together from older promos releases they had laying around the offices which they packaged with the latest 12" single release.
Contents are as follows...
IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD 12"
Island 12IS 260 (1986)
Tracks
1. In The Neighborhood
2. Singapore
3. Tango Till They're Sore (Live In Paris 16/11/85)
4. 16 Shells (Live In Paris 16/11/85)
Interesting to note that "Neighborhood" is spelt in the US fashion on this disc & it's sleeve, but in the UK fashion on the slipcase. This would suggect that this was a UK only promotional release.
The vinyl & pic sleeve are in superb condition, as one would expect from a brand new promo item.
"RAIN DOGS" AMERICAN INTERVIEW ALBUM
Island PR 792 (1985)
Tracks
1. Hang Down Your Head
2. Downtown Trains
3. Clap Hands
4. A Conversation With Tom Waits
Referred to on the slipcase as an album, this is actually a 12" single, as it runs at 45rpm & lasts for just 20 minutes or so.
The vinyl is in superb condition, as one would expect from a brand new promo item.
The card sleeve has a patch of damage, where a sticky label was removed at some point. This is how it came, which supports the idea that these sets were cobbled together from discs they had laying around the office. Since this came in just an Island logo card sleeve, I've added a decent inner bag to protect the vinyl from scratches.
"SWORDFISHTROMBONES" INTERVIEW ALBUM
Island TW1 (1983)
Clips from each song, with Tom Waits giving the story behind each one.
This one is actually a full-length album, running at 33rpm.
The vinyl has a fair few scuffs, especially on side one. It plays ok, but does have some background crackle. Again, this is how it came, which supports my view that the set was made up from discs that had been knocking around the island offices for a few years.
The sleeve is in excellent condition.
So, all in all an intersting oddity. Evidently only issued in the UK. Shame about the imperfections, but that is how it came. The slipcase is a cheap affair. Just a stuck on picture on a plain white box.
Hopefully interested parties will see it. Tom Waits presents a real difficulty when trying to categorize. I did a search & found Waits in almost as many different categories as there were items on eBay.
Please note that this item is heavy. It weighs close to 800g without any packaging, so please don't assume I'm overcharging for the postage.
