Description
This is a rare original copy of the second-ever rock bootleg. The first was Dylan's Great White Wonder, in early 1969, which inspired a generation of bootleg albums which flooded the shops throughout the 70s and 80s. This album was the second one, the first to take on the boot business after the hugely successful Dylan LP. I got it from one of the guys who actually made it, and he told me so much interesting stuff about the early boot business. He and a couple of friends decided to try their hand at it after hearing the Dylan album, and started recording shows in their area, around Oakland and San Francisco. This album is a recording of The Rolling Stones at the Oakland Coliseum from that year, and was the recording they decided to release. And, like the Dylan album, it immediately became a huge hit, and since it was illegitimate, was repressed again and again by other people over the years. You will see this record on several different labels, but the original 1969 first generation ones are all on the red Lurch label. They called it Lurch Records because they would use a very tall guy they called Lurch to record the shows. He would hide the microphone in his hat, and since he was so tall the mic was over the heads of the audience and picked up the music really well. The original Lurch copies sound WAY better than the later reboots, which are a generation further from the source. This copy is in absolutely beautiful condition. The disc is almost perfect mint and plays incredibly. There are a few very light sleeve scuffs but it plays flawlessly and is just a fantastic listen. Usually the early copies are pretty scratched. This is maybe the best I have ever seen. The owner of the label kept a handful of copies he never played much and this was one of them. The cover has a bit of light wear but is also in unusually great shape with no seam splits. This is really the best sounding version of this album and you won't be disappointed. Beautiful.
