Description
THE PAWNSHOP: Rare Italian Holy Grail Psych-Funk!
Here’s one of the rarest and most sought after 45’s from Italy...“The Pawnshop” is a mysterious Psych-Prog masterpiece that was composed by two of Italy’s most prolific, influential, and revered composers, Alessandro Alessandroni and Giuliano Sorgini. I’m not sure why they chose that name for this collaboration, but I speculate that it may be a metaphor for the variety of different musical genres that are used to piece this work together (funk, rock, prog, psych, blues). Unfortunately, I’m not aware who the singers are on both sides, but I do know that the haunting breathless vocals on “ MY SHADE" are provided by Giula De Mutiis (Alessandro’s late wife).“The Telegraph Is Calling” is an intense arrangement with sitar, hammond B3, and spring reverb effects, all which are expertly structured over a funky drum-break and tight baseline. “My Shade” is haunting and dark, and the lyrics reflect this , but the story has a moral; a father warns his son not to follow in his foot steps, thus using, his “shadow" as a metaphor.
Original Italian pressing released by Roman Record Company (RRC)
Disc: NM (plays with some background noise, but overall clean and glossy) Sleeve: VG+ (overall very clean, high gloss, no tears)
