The Jimi Hendrix Experience : Are You Experienced A1/B1 1st Press (Track Record)

This was the first record released on the Track Record label and as it is a first pressing it has silver / black labels and an A1/B1 matrix.  Only the front cover is laminated.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still hold a very strong glossy sheen and no scratches.  I can only see a few faint hairlines and a small hairline scuff mark on 'Fire' on S2 but it has no affect on the audio at all.  The run out grooves are very clean as are the Track Record labels which only have some spindle wear.

Play grading  

The intro on 'Foxy Lady' has no interference and Hendrix's opening vocal has only a couple of barely audible statics and there are no ticks, clicks or pops.  From then on it plays with great quality and with no intrusion on the audio.  The guitar work is of course so powerful and there is a definite raw 'edge' to the audio on this mono version.  I will say Near Mint although that could be considered a little harsh as I'm sure that raw sound is how it was meant to have played.  Forget that see my comment below, it does deserve a Mint- grade!!

'Manic Depression' plays with stunning quality from the get go.  The intro is so powerful and the opening vocal is perfect and it continues in the same precise way.  There is a kind of greater clarity of sound on this track and having looked at a previous listing I can see I wrote exactly the same thing last time!  The mid solo is absolutely STUNNING, so strong and dynamic and it could not play with any greater precision.  Blast it loud!  Redding's deep bass adds so much here and Mitchell's 'busy' drumming just as much.  The sonic quality on Hendrix's guitar at the end is again breath-taking - incredible power and no distortion.  This is Mint the playback is flawless on this 57 year old record.

The bluesy intro on 'Red House' is so close to perfect with just one very quiet tick and then the opening vocal does indeed play with perfect clarity.  From then on the playback is so clean with each note playing with such finesse.  Redding's bass again a massive part of this track - every section plays with sublime quality even the 'spoken' ending.  Mint-

'Can You See Me' once more demonstrates how carefully this vinyl has been looked after and plays with exceptional quality through every vocal and instrumental section.  Another one of those turn off the lights and imagine yourself back in the 60s kind of moments!  Pure clean Mint audio from start to finish.  No distortion again!

The Fuzz Face intro on 'Love Or Confusion' has no background and the first vocal is on the same level.  In fact this high standard is prevalent right through to the final note.  No ticks, clicks etc the power and clarity of the audio is phenomenal and nowhere is that more obvious than during the mid instrumental.  Another Mint version.

'I Don't Live Today' ends the side with real quality once more.  I regularly find final tracks on a mono record being played through a stereo set up play with inner groove distortion but that is not the case here.  The power is tangible - it is such a powerful track and yet the sonic quality is so impressive.  More heavy rock than blues for sure!  The quieter moment towards the end has no intrusion and then the high octane end section is sensational!  The fade out / in sections are so clean with not even a single dust tick and I have to say Mint- again here at the very least.  A stonking version!

The 'psychedelic' intro on 'May This Be Love' plays with stunning clarity and the opening vocal is equal to that.  This clean sound does not decrease as it progresses and there is nothing getting in the way of the audio.  A few 'silent' moments and yet I did not hear a single dust tick.  The closing solo (gentle by Hendrix standards!) plays perfectly and Mint- is deserved.

'Fire' plays with stunning power and depth from start to finish.  Mitchell's percussion is very much a key part of this strong track and it plays so well here.  The clarity of sound is maybe not quite on the same level as the majority of tracks but as per Foxy Lady I am sure that is just how it was recorded / produced.  It still plays damn well with no interference.  Mint-

The entire intro on '3rd Stone From The Sun' is phenomenal and 'as new' sums it up perfectly.  The clarity, depth and warmth of the music is superb, other worldly you could say!  The first 'vocal' is equal to that and the psychedelic section plays to the same standard.  Again I am lost for words, a rarity!  The sonic quality here is STUNNING - Redding's bass kind of leading the way and I cannot emphasise enough just how well it plays, it demands to be played loud with the lights off!  Hendrix's raucous ending and then the fade out are both flawless - I only grade as Mint if there is no background and this is Mint and then some!  What. A. Version!

'Remember' plays with unrivalled quality and the clarity and depth really stand out.  No need to elaborate this Mint all the way through.

'Are You Experienced' is without doubt a 60s classic and from the very note it plays with genuine quality.  The intro is as strong as ever and the opening vocal is just as impressive.  It drives along with such distinction and the music resonates so powerfully around the room.  The mid instrumental is stunning and despite being the final track is no distortion, no background at all.  Mitchell's driving beat and Hendrix's classic work combine so well and I'm sorry but I have to repeat myself again - I cannot believe the sonic quality here!  The playback is just perfect there is literally no background.  I listen to every track in full so as to provide the 'complete' grade and as my regulars know I grade with total honesty.  If there is a non-intrusive barely audible tick I will mention it.  This absolute classic is Mint and it provides a worthy finish to this stunning first press.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The Patent Pending E.J. Day cover is in excellent condition with very minimal wear.  The edges have barely any wear and and thin pinched spine does have some rubbing but isn't that noticeable really, a little more wear in the centre.  The opening edge has hardly any handling wear and the laminated front cover is in great condition with only a couple of laminate creases and a small number of the usual small creases around the edges.  One tiny rub near the top edge also.  The back cover is for once so clean with just one small circle mark top right but overall this grey area is in great order with barely any marking, it is so often found in poor condition.  The back is not laminated and it has withstood the test of time very well.  A fine example and one of the best you find today.

The plain white die-cut inner is in excellent shape with no side splits or tears, barely any marking and only minimal creasing.  As stated I doubt if it is the original sleeve.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
