Description
Quite a rare and collectable early 78rpm record, a Gramophone Monarch 12" single sided manufactured by The Gramophone Co. Ltd., titled 'The Dash to the South Pole' a talking record spoken by Lieutenant E Shackleton MVC. He accompnied Captain Scott (as third Lieutenant) aboard the ship Discovery 1901-1904 in their race to reach the South Pole, although Shackleton was sent back to New Zealand less than a 100 miles from reaching it due to ill health. He returned later to Antartica as Captain of the Nimrod 1907-1909, then again in his famous expedition aboard Endurance 1914-17 when his ship became crushed in an ice flow.
