THIS ITEM COMES FROM THE INCREDIBLE, SINGLE-OWNER COLLECTION WE ACQUIRED A WHILE AGO, IN WHICH ITEMS ORIGINALLY BOUGHT BY THE OWNER FROM THE MID-1970s to THE MID-2010s WERE KEPT STILL SEALED IN A NEAR-LABORATORY, TIME-CAPSULE CONDITIONS AND IN PRACTICALLY CLIMATE- AND HUMIDITY- CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.  CONDITIONS OF SOME OF THESE ITEMS RANGE FROM IMPECCABLE TO TRULY UNBELIEVABLE. SOME OF THESE BEAUTIFUL MUSEUM PIECES LOOKED SO PERFECT THAT WE HAD TO REINSPECT AND RE-EXAMINE THEM A FEW TIMES TO MAKE SURE THEY OUR EYES ARE NOT DECEIVING US.

Mystical, eastern flavored prog with some repetitive, chanting vocals, flute, sax, and some soft horns and bongos. Surprisingly, this is a consistently very good LP. Grades - 3 B+'s, and a B. Checking with most of the high priced dealers around the world that are likely to be the only place you'll ever find a copy of this, (and I know most of them), all swear that there was never a Vol. 1 from them. This was recorded in Dec., 1973, and they do seem to have been from NY.

The Collective Star is keyboardist Paul Ramana Das Silbey's first foray into recorded music, while still a resident of New York City. Today, now a resident of the Californian Bay Area, he is known as a "romantic classical concert pianist". Plenty of what we would now call "world music" presents itself, via eastern instrumentation and scales (hand percussion, sitar, etc...). Lots of period lyrics full of love and peace. Honestly music like this can be very interesting, and I think in the formative stages - as is the case here - it was. It sounds more authentic and heartfelt than the sanitized gloss we've been subjected to since the early 1980s. There's quite a bit of edge in the jam sessions (acoustic guitar, flute, piano, organ), which adds points. Maybe even a little anger that hasn't quite been purged from the soul yet. Not exactly Popol Vuh when looking for "higher key" sounds, but that's not a bad benchmark either. Also fellow New Yorker's Arica may have played an influence here.

(b)          The record is  apparently pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER IS NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP   (A SMALL PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP IS MISSING)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has some tiny, faint writing on its back side (a microscopic price code written in one corner)  (the writing is black on black and is virtually invisible)

-        Minor shelf wear noted on the bottom seam and spine  (nothing significant)

-        Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on the front  side, apparently from aging.  (BARELY VISIBLE)

-        Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the bottom seam   (nothing significant)
