MAGIC / MAGIC ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by THE CIRCLE CITY BAND produced by STANLEE PAUL for P.S.T. Productions / executive producer RICKIE CLARK & TYSCOT RECORDS. Original US promo pressing on the BECKET RECORDS label (BKA-45-16), from 1983. Outstanding boogie funk / modern soul from Indianopolis city. The intoxicating MAGIC tune is a superb example of early '80s rare groove featuring the latest technology of the period. Big record with DJs and collectors with crossover disco appeal. Soulful club sounds with killer bassline / boom bap drums and electro hand-claps / joyous lead vocals et al. The nucleus of the group was Paul Thomas, a local musician who wrote and performed this cult anthem and radio theme. Thomas used session players on this mini masterpiece, to pimp up his synthesizers and drum machine riddims with slap bass / rhythm guitar / funky live drums and percussion overdubs. MAGIC was also re-issued by Luv n Haight / Ubiquity a few years ago as part of Thomas' otherwise unreleased recordings but here is an original 7inch on an obscure Indiana label. One for the Steve Arrington / Slave / roller disco lover. Thomas was also a sound engineer for cult groups like Manchild / Ebony Rhythm Funk Campaign and Amnesty in the '70s. Flat edged styrene in top condition with booming production sound. We have recorded both sides for our soundclip albeit they seem to be the same version (actually an alternative mix on 7inch ;) Very rare 45!!! 

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG 

Flat edged styrene record (marbled greeny dark blue) is closer to shiny M- condition overall with just a few hairlines / faint scuffs from storage cum sleeve removal. Booming production sound. Light surface noises. The soft audible glitch / pop you hear midway the music would appear to be an actual recording anomaly on the mastertape before going to press as it occurs in the same place on each side of the record. Item taken from an unplayed deadstock of records and played once for the recording of our soundclip. Small 'x' notation mark beside track title on label (both sides). Record will be housed in a white card sleeve with brand new poly lined inner. Very rare 45!!!
