Description
Hello and welcome to this auction for a 'Beatles - Yesterday and Today' SECOND STATE STEREO BUTCHER COVER vinyl LP in overall VERY GOOD condition.
This particular pressing features a paste-over trunk cover.
This is believed to be a second state stereo butcher cover from 1966. It hasn't been authenticated as a butcher sleeve and I have never tried to remove the past-over sleeve. It isn't in mint condition but here are some reasons as to why I believe it is a second state butcher cover:
• The paste-over cover can been seen covering the catalogue number and 'Files Under Beatles' on the top right of the front of the sleeve. This is usually a tell-tale sign!
• The paste-over sleeve looks slightly wonky and doesn't really look like a neat finish - especially on the spine edge. This is possibly a suggestion of a quick cover-up job by Capitol in 1966.
• Ringo's black V-neck is difficult to see and there is some dirt and discolouration over that area. I'm not an expert and I'm not sure if it can be seen in all lights. I couldn't photograph it.
I am NOT certifying this as a butcher cover so please make up your own minds but most of the evidence is there! Sold as seen.
Artist: The Beatles
Title: Yesterday and Today
Catalogue Number: ST 2553
Year: 1966
Number of Tracks: 11
Condition:
Vinyl (visual): Side 1 - quite a lot of hairlines and light scratches. None that I can feel however. Rates at least VERY GOOD. Label is VERY GOOD+. Side 2 - same as Side 1!
Audio: I have play tested the first track on Side 1 and the first track on Side 2 ONLY!! They both rate as VERY GOOD+. There is some crackle on the run-in and in the background but it never interferes with the loud punchy audio! Crisp highs and a nice rich bass tone! No skips, sticks or jumps on the tracks I played!
Inner Sleeve: The original yellow Capitol inner sleeve is currently in GOOD+ condition. Unfortunately, there is a split along the left side and along the bottom (8"). I will provide a brand new white poly-lined inner sleeve to protect the original.
Sleeve: The original paste-over 1966 stereo sleeve is currently in VERY GOOD- condition! The front does have some discolouration and age-related wear in places. The top right of the sleeve has some wear and scuffing where the notation is. It also has some edgewear and light cornerwear. There are a couple of small splits along the top of the sleeve. Still intact and houses the record very well! The rear of the sleeve is slightly discoloured but everything is readable! The spine is worn in places with a 2" split towards the very top. I'd say about 70% readable. Not the best but it's all about the front of this cover!!

As with all the vintage records I sell, I advise a deep clean to enhance the sound quality of the record. Overall, a RARE and ICONIC Beatles record that everyone wishes they owned!
