ONEADAYRECORDS – Delivering Quality Music to the World

Please see my Detailed Packing Description Further Down & All Shipping Rates.

Artist or Band: THE BEATLES

Album Title: With The Beatles.

Producer(s): George Martin.

TRACK LIST:

Side 1: It Won’t Be Long; All I’ve Got to Do; All My Loving; Don't Bother Me; Little Child; Till There Was You; Please Mister Postman.

Side 2: Roll Over Beethoven; Hold Me Tight; You Really Got a Hold on Me; I Wanna Be Your Man; Devil in Her Heart; Not a Second Time; Money (That’s What I Want).

Label/Format: Parlophone – First Press format with embossed ‘K T’ tax codes on side two. These are totally unflattened or worn, so-much-so, they may not be too easy to even see. When many are seen almost eroded away, these are in fantastic shape. This practically ultimate first pressing includes the rarer Jobete Music credits on ‘Money’ and includes the text ‘Recording First Published 1963’. A sensational example with almost the lowest Mother and Stamper codes you will ever find. With a 1 G / 1 R, this would have been one of the very first stereo copies ever pressed. Indeed comparing to a ‘White Album’ cover number, this would be in low double figures. (Please see my label scans).

Label Conditions: Both little short of stunning: ultra clean, fresh and highly attractive with only very light, few and faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area. The marks only really show under angled light, and considering the real hammer this album took in most cases, this one looks hardly run-in. With barely a handling trace to either of the matt surfaces, this has probably not been removed from the inner for many years. I have taken angled photographs of these gorgeous Parlophone labels to try and highlight the matrix detail and the meagre spindle use. Not only is this one of the earliest pressings ever made, this record is in the most sensational condition.

Cat Number: PCS 3045.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 150 grams. A real heavyweight ultimate first pressing, but not untypical of this era and album.

Country of Manufacture: England.

Rarity & Overview: I will seldom ever state any standard issue Beatles record as being rare, most sold in vast numbers, but there are exceptions which need to be taken into consideration. The mono versions sold in vast numbers, so-much-so, the pressing plants could hardly keep up with demand. However, the stereo genuine originals are a far different matter. Remember, this album and this copy in particular was pressed in 1963. Very few people owned stereo systems at this time, Within the UK, stereo record players were still in their infancy and most who owned them were audiophile purists, many listened to jazz and classical music and not new popular acts. Stereo equipment was expensive and specialised, hence far fewer stereo records were pressed and sold. This was the age of the mono sound via record and radio, and only towards the latter part of the 1960s did the twin channel mode overtake this format. Finding this sensational record in this type of condition with such low Mothers and Stampers is a massive challenge and few this early will survive like this. As I have said so many times, it’s the condition of the record that makes the real difference. With the majority seen played to destruction on old mono record players and now sounding terrible. Dull, greyed vinyl with webs of scratches and fingermarks and labels covered with multitudes of spindle marks, often removing the ink and names plastered all over them and cover. All too common traits for records of this generation where lending and partying was a regular occurrence. We have all seen them, I will not offer records like that. Without any doubt, this copy is now 47-years-old, that is a huge age for any vinyl record. But it does prove with the utmost care, these things can last indefinitely. The owner this was a connoisseur collector who chose stereo from way back, looked after and in this case, little played. The cover has aged little, but just enough to remind of it’s classic vintage, not in wear terms, simply light discolour. The inner is in supreme condition and the record, like wow!! Any surface blemishes are merely that, blemishes and with NO sound whatsoever. There is nothing that even resembles a scratch, merely the odd ultra faint friction scuff (but look hard). Almost a copy time has over-looked and forgotten about. I am rarely lost for words, but the sound on this almost does leave me speechless. The ultimate stereo experience from this truly stunning George Martin stereo mix and production. Jaw-dropping fidelity that made my LP12 excel to almost spine-tingling levels. The mix is very loud and ultra dynamic with real stereo separation. The Fab Fours’ vocals have an in-the-room level of accuracy and believability and are totally focused and sharp. The instruments beyond stunning too, the channels meet together with central listening to the standards only a hardly played, very first pressing can ever offer. This is true Beatles audiophile nirvana of the highest standard and this deserves to be heard of a worthy high-end system. I found it impossible to ‘work’ typing out these pieces while listening to this record, I simply had to just stop and take-in the sound in total awe with full concentration. The sheer volume and power of the early Beatles sound is captured within these totally unworn grooves, this has barely anything to fault. I can just image how this would sound if this had been exposed to any worn or heavy stylus from the distant past. The vocal clarity would be shattered the clipping and crackle. Distortion would be rife and the beauty destroyed – this simply has avoided such abuse and there is barely any traces of unwanted sound or clarity loss. An astonishing early stereo record that has done more than just survive, it’s been largely ignored and I feel sure this record has not seen light-of-day for decades. Using the word ‘rare’ on such a Beatles record is more than justified here. This is one for the connoisseur and discerning audiophile collector.

Original Year of Release: 1963

Matrix Nos: YEX 110-2 / YEX 111-2 (Clearly seen on my label pictures)

Mother & Stamper Codes: 1 R / 1 G (I have tried to show these, hopefully they can be seen. These pictures proved to be most challenging ever for Ebay, but they are so important on this record).

Musicians: George Harrison – lead, harmony and background vocals; lead and acoustic guitars; John Lennon – lead, harmony and background vocals; rhythm and acoustic guitars; harmonica, Hammond organ, tambourine; Paul McCartney – lead, harmony and background vocals; bass guitar, piano; Ringo Starr – drums, percussion, vocals.

Brief Info: The band’s second album, most will know all about, I will concentrate on the conditions.

Cover Grade and Format: Critically graded EX++, a single format with front laminate that wraps around the closed edges on to three rear flipbacks. This has the large ‘stereo’ on the front and was printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse and includes the ‘Patents pending’ text (seen in close-up).

Lamination & Front: Always a joy to see a 47-year-old cover looking almost as good as a stunning record inside. This is not ‘perfect’, but it’s a real beauty that I personally feel it does look perfect for it’s considerable vintage. Like many of my regulars, I do like to see a cover very slightly aged to actually look right for it’s time. On an age-to-condition ratio, they do not get much better. The laminate is still as solidly adhered as when applied back in 63. It has that microscopic air bubble look of adhesion I call ‘mottle’. I think it gives the cover an almost classical look and many old covers had have it. This retains a very fine shine, the style of this application gives it a more semi-gloss sheen rather than a full gloss, this is totally natural and there is barely any traces of dulling or friction rubs even under light. Two or three ultra fine and faint surface marks and a few light surface creases, mostly fine and quite small half moons towards the right edge area. These almost naturally occur simply by removing the heavy record and few avoid a small few. A front that still retains a real freshness and excellent good looks, the white area still just that, white. With no lifting or blisters, this classic black and white sleeve will find hard to find much better with the huge ‘stereo’ word on the front and including one of the earliest ever pressings of this very popular masterwork.

Cover Back: A back that simply looks fantastic. The slight clue to it’s great age is very light darkening, or mild toning on the left edge. Any real grubbiness is tiny and very faint indeed and any marks are tiny, very few and ultra faint, look very hard to see anything. On the main panel itself, there are no creases or rubbing, the lack of any ring marks from the heavy record’s rim is unusually excellent news too. The flipbacks are in super condition: The top one has no creases, the spine one only one and the most vulnerable one, the bottom on mere three, one being ultra faint indeed. Just fine surface laminate creases that few ever avoid. The ends are incredibly clean and devoid or grime-lines with no burring or lifting. The imprint text is pristine under the perfectly adhered laminate as can be seen on my close-up picture. Even the more modern Beatles back covers are hard to find this fine, let alone one of this phenomenal age.

Top Edge: Unworn.

Bottom Edge: This vulnerable resting edge is practically unworn too.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, quite sharp with little wear and no feathering and guaranteed untrimmed. This has a mildly rustic manufactured trim and has a little very minor burr traces seen end-on, this being highly critical of a cover this age and with a massively pressed record inside all these years. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: A fantastic spine too: solid, straight with barely any compression, all text is perfect and unworn under the solid and virtually crack-free laminate, just the one pin-head sized hairline crease (but look under a magnifier) and no peeling.

Corners: Any tip wear is very small indeed, odd tiny crease or rub trace and very fine to excellent shape is retained. This carefully protected and stored cover has avoided any dinking.

Cover Summary: I believe any cover this fantastic age has the right to have a few visual blemishes and only ones owned by the most carefuly of owners will have few to none. If you want absolute pristine perfection, well wait for the near impossible, but in the meantime, this will please the majority of collectors needing this much rarer original stereo cover. For those who want to be lightly reminded they are holding a 47-year-old cover, this could be just the ‘perfect’ one for you.

The Inner Sleeve: The heavy-duty polylined inner sleeve is in superb condition. The window is in lovely neat condition with just a little ruffling to the transparent polylining and just one tiny nick to the circle on the back. However, the edges are unsplit and any discolour minimal and consistent. The top opening edge is incredibly unworn and ultra neat with no burring or softening, that is a surprise with a record this weight inside spanning five decades. This includes the ‘Patents Applied for’ text which is small near the bottom edge.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EX++ / Mint(-). As wonderful as the cover and inner are, the ultimate star of this set is the actual record, for me the most important part, covers are important of course, but you cannot play them can you? A beautiful record by any standards. You can just imagine what state this wonderful disc could have been in. But this delectable stereo copy is a visual joy. Ultra clean with rich shine, intense black and a typical early issue heavy pressing. Side one has a tiny few ultra faint and super-fine scuff traces seen under light, hardly any hairlines, merely super-fine friction traces that of course have NO sound. Side two has barely any blemishes worthy of mention. A copy hardy even played on all the evidence and in terms of this title (or any Beatles album) barely even run-in. Put a Beatles record like this into true perspective: most were played multitude of times, often to the point of wear-out, hence some collectors had to buy a second copy for replacement. To find a 1 R / 1 G first pressing of this classic played between one and three times as all evidence strongly suggests is a near impossible task. Visually a stunning record it has to be up there as being the best condition earliest copy that will ever be offered on the open market. I know it’s a bold statement, but there are so few of these around with Mothers/Stampers this early, the law of averages state many, if not most will be well used or even trashed conditions. This is not just a survivor, it’s little short of a miracle.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: To describe the experience of listening to this stunning first pressed record is probably beyond my limited words. I am no high fidelity magazine reviewer but merely a humble record dealer. That said, I do no quality when I hear it and this ranks high in my all-time listening experiences. There will be other copies around as good as this for sure, but most are locked away in valuable and cherished collections and are unlikely to be offered for sale. This is a lesson in the perfect production for the early stereo sound of the day. The vocals come from the left channel while the powerful backing bursts from the right. When listening in the optimum central position in the perfect triangle position, the blend of sound enters the ears perfectly and sounds beyond incredible. Doing nothing but listening on this one, maximum concentration was a mandatory requirement to simply let the pristine sound flood into my senses. Martin’s production is simply perfect, the gateway into The Beatles recording studio itself, this is purely audiophile standard that will make any quality stereo system excel. Massively powerful distortion-free sound – never take this for granted. Even pristine looking copies can hide dreaded distortion caused by a blunt stylus, the curse of the 1960s record especially. Here, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is immensely high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. A very forward, loud and dynamic recording, this simply sounds stunning with any surface sounds barely even registering and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. The lack of crackle is refreshing and even the more critical songs play focused and clear. Such sonic power and dynamics mean ultra complex grooves patterns, these can be seen under light. They are so easily damaged rendering crackle and clipping to the focused sound, worse still distortion. This has avoided it totally, only listening to this first cut for yourself can really demonstrate to just how special this early stereo record is. Just holding it gives pleasure, as soon as the music starts, well it’s a priceless experience. Few copies will even match, let alone outperform this ultra early pressing significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been carefully handled, cherished and looked-after by just one owner from new. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record, a blistering sound experience that truly left me aghast. Which is better, mono or stereo? The truth: both are essential as they present the music in such a different manner. This is a real stereo recording, not an electronically processed one, the difference is more than apparent. This actual record will prove immensely difficult if not close to impossible to find significantly better and merits my highest possible recommendation. I will not forget this one in a hurry and even putting this up for offer has proved very difficult. I hope it gets the new home this seller and it’s previous owner thinks it deserves.

Now one of the most established sellers on Ebay and still offering the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay - on average ONEADAY, a couple more at weekends if time permits, hence the name - time rarely allows for more as I Play-Grade virtually every record I offer in their entirety, not just bits to guess a grade - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story. I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested collector – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get and scanned labels will give a more accurate representation of the genuine colour than flash photography where light is variable. I cannot guarantee total accuracy for colours however but most will be very close. If any picture I take looks more flattering than the actual item for any reason, I will clearly state the fact in the advert and vice-versa. I hope the item below is to your liking - any questions can be emailed and I will do my very best to answer you. I am enthusiastic, and have a fair degree of knowledge about many genres and I promise quality items - bid with confidence - excellence comes as standard and so does Near Mint regularly. Please assume all records I offer have NO jumps, sticks, warps or writing on covers or labels unless clearly stated to the contrary. Thanks for your interest and Good luck – MIKE.

Equipment Used for Play-Grading: I now play-grade ALL the records I offer (unless clearly stated to the contrary) on the following equipment:

Deck: Linn LP12/Hercules/Cirkus with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Rondo Red moving coil cartridge (tracks at 2 grams). Amps: Naim Nait 5i with Project USB phono stage and Chord interconnects. Speakers: B&W 704 Floorstanding 3-way Monitors (bi-wired with QED Silver terminated cable). All records I offer on Ebay are cleaned on a professional Moth vacuum machine before play-grading for the cleanest and best possible sound and will include a brand new lined inner and protective cover too.

First-time, zero-rated bidders, who do not ask permission to bid, will be cancelled immediately and blocked – NO exceptions. For winning bidders who I consider excessively slow to make contact or submit payment, I will use my right to block future bids. If any bidder who wins in the final seconds is present to do so, surely they can at least email me to inform of intention and payment method? If swift or promp payment is a problem, please do not bid.

PACKING - THIS IS WHAT YOU GET - PLEASE SEE MY TYPICAL PACKING BOX PICTURE.

What You Get: To confirm to the strict Ebay rules on shipping, I must now send ALL my packets ‘Signed-For’ with NO exceptions. Both buyers and sellers want their packets to have a safer journey and this is not a bad thing.

I now offer the fastest possible posting, often the very next day after payment is received or within two to three days maximum (unless on holiday). I only use FIRST-CLASS Mail. The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my Moth Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional thick boxes (NOT Mailers or Cruciforms, these do not offer maximum protection). The record(s) REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with THREE or EVEN FOUR ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. Really rare and expensive albums will even be Double Boxed if deemed necessary and possible. The thick record and stiffener ‘sandwich’ is then thickly embedded into bubble-wrap to bulk out the record inside the box to centre the item inside to reduce the risk of damage still further. Printed address labels are used for clarity as well as a sender label. Customers requests or special needs for P&P will be respected if at all possible but ‘Signed-For’ posting is NOT an option anymore. Please see my picture of a typical finished box packet that will now be used on ALL transactions as from now. I do not profit on posting and the cost of this lavish packing is NOT even charged for, I offer probably the best-value and safest shipping possible for ultimate confidence. These boxes and ultra thick double-wall stiffners and bubble wrap make a near impregnable fortress for safe shipping and this is used inland and overseas for ALL my records, not just the rare and expensive. I will invoice any winning bidder as soon as possible after the auction ends. My ‘loss’ or ‘damage rate’ is less than one in two thousand based on over 6,000+ items sold in over 8 years of Ebay trading and I consider that pretty exceptional. The only damage rate acceptable for this seller is ZERO and I think my packets will offer just that. It would take a vicious postman or postal service to damage these for sure. Even one of these stiffners cannot be bent by hand, so what chance 3 or 4 inside a box? Oneadayrecords is a MAILER-FREE ZONE. I discount of course for multiple purchases with a maximum of FOUR records per box (one double can sometimes be included subject to total weight). I will not respond to questions on shipping costs as all the details are included here and on ALL of my adverts. Details below:

NOTE: First Time Bidders: I will cancel ALL first-time bidders with no feedbacks or excessive negatives who do not ask me if its OK to bid first – NO EXCEPTIONS.

Please Note: I will now offer any item to the runner-up after the mandatory Ebay 3 days if no contact is made by the winning bidder unless prior notice of any delay is given beforehand. The same applies if no payment is received within the mandatory 7 days so any bidder who has just lost out can still email me to reserve the item as priority second chance – it’s always worth asking.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT neccessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
