THE BEATLES – WHITE ALBUM, ORIGINAL MONO.

1968 PMC 7067/7068 -  APPLE RECORD LABEL.

AN EXCELLENT   UK FIRST EDITION TOP LOADING MONO PRESSING ALL IN ORIGINAL CONDITION WITH A UNIQUE SERIAL NUMBER OF ‘0062178’.  THE TEXT ‘AN EMI RECORDING’ DOES NOT APPEAR ON ANY OF THE LABELS.  THE MAIN SLEEVE ALSO FEATURES A VERY UNUSUAL WIDE SPINE THAT  MEASURES 10mm IN WIDTH.

CONDITION:

MAIN SLEEVE:  the double album gatefold sleeve is in excellent condition.  This is a really excellent fresh white clean sleeve with NO stickers or pen damage. The top opening edges are all excellent. On the front it has a raised Beatles logo and the unique individual SERIAL Number of 0062178.  There is NO text printed on the rear of the sleeve proving this to be a genuine MONO sleeve.   The spine is in excellent condition and features a more unusual 10mm wide spine width.  The spine does NOT have a line down it as the construction of the sleeve/spine is different from the normal spine, therefore the spines is really white and the text is crystal clear, very unusual for this sleeve.   The sleeve features visible flipbacks when the sleeve is opened, these flipbacks are all excellent and well stuck down.  When the sleeve is opened is it very clean, white and tidy, the sleeve even seems to smell NEW !. 

INNER SLEEVES: both are in near excellent condition, both are the original black inner sleeves, they have NOT been replaced.  One sleeve has some slight edge rubbing to the sides  The other sleeve is near perfect.

POSTER: is in excellent+ condition, the corners of  the poster are crisp and sharp and there is NO wear to the folds etc, really excellent.  There is NO  cellotape residue,  pin hole damage or blue tack residue.  Due to the record sets age,  there are some slight age marks (foxing), to the poster.  

PHOTOS: are in excellent condition,  the photos are made from the original thick card.   The rear of the photos are fresh and white with NO cellotape residue,  pin hole damage or Blue tack residue.

VINYL:  are in very good+ condition  and have been well looked after.  The vinyl is of the original ‘thick and heavy’ vinyl and are dark, clean and glossy.  The audio is very good.   I have just played this album all the way through on my ‘Dual’ turntable and it sounded amazing, a really strong powerful Mono sound.   There is very little to spoil the listening pleasure as the audio quality is near excellent, the records lay flat on the turntable and  play really well with NO skips or jumps.

The matrix nos. are XEX 709-1, XEX 710-1, XEX 711-1 and XEX 712-1. The Mother/Stampers are:   ‘ 4 GH’,  ‘3 MR’,  ‘2  HG’ and ‘2  HG’

THE LABELS:  are in very good+ condition and feature the original DARK green Apple colours.  Proving that this is an early pressing, the text  ‘An EMI recording’ DOES NOT  appear  on any of the labels,  all the labels show  ‘Sold in the UK’ text etc.  The George and Ringo songs are listed as  ‘Apple Publishing’ etc.    There is NO biro writing or sticker damage to the labels.

I am using the official grading system from Record Collector Magazine.

Grading System

The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

+  or  – :  indicates a grading in between categories.
