Description
The Beatles (White Album) 1968 UK Apple PCS 7067/8, stereo. Complete with the original poster, colour prints and black die-cut inner sleeves.
No. 0333632 with matrices YEX 709-1, YEX 710-1, YEX 711-1 and YEX 712-1 for Sides 1 to 4 respectively.
The top-loading fully laminated gatefold sleeve is solid with no seam splits, rips or tears. The corners and mouths show a touch of wear and other 'flaws' include some laminate shrinkage, ringwear and mild discolouration in parts. Condition wise I give it 6.5 /10.
The poster is all there but with seam creases, splits and general wear so say 5 /10.
In better shape at 7.5 /10 are the four colour prints and the lost points are due to some corner creases and grubbiness on the backs.
For the black die-cut (one side only) sleeves at 5.5 /10, both are creased and one has a small tear in the die-cut. But although these sleeves were 'trendy' they were awful from the start because of their rough insides and whoever came up with the marketing idea shouldn't have. As such I'll include the sleeves of course but place the records in new polythene lined black inner sleeves for best protection.
On to the vinyls. Disc one is 140g and disc 2 is 145g on my scale so have a substantial weight. Both are flat and the clean labels have 'Sold In The UK...' label text and with evidence at the spindle hole of several plays each.
Eyeballing the records I see noticeable scuffs and light hairlines but no deep scratches so visually I rate the records 5 /10.
The acid test is to play them in anger so on to the Linn / Naim hi-fi they go. I'm playing all four sides through and there are ticks and pops on the quieter sections and on the dead bands between the tracks but I can't discern any skips or other bad nasties. As such it's eminently listenable and so for aural quality I figure it's worthy of a 6.5 /10 minimum.
Not the best example of the White Album I've ever listed but hey, it starts at 99p.
