Description
You are bidding on an excellent condition copy of The Beatles 1968 self titled album, more commonly known as The White Album. This is an early first pressing, indicated by the stampers on the run out grooves. The large fold out poster, four photographs of the band, paper divider and black inner sleeves are all included. The whole package is in excellent condition and plays fantastically. Please read on for a detailed description and check out the photos of the actual item you are bidding on.
The sleeve: Very clean top opening sleeve. All laminate is in perfect condition except on the gatefold spine where there is a little flaking. There are a few minor creases. The fold over edges are perfect. The embossed 'The Beatles' is strong and undamaged. The numbered stamp 'No. 0254594' is like new. The is slight yellowing the outside edges. The corners have minor bumping. The top opening edges have minimal wear. There is slight ringwear to the rear. There are no seam splits. Overall this is a superb sleeve which i would grade Exc-
The stampers: Side 1: 1 RP Side 2: 7 GGT Side 3: 3 OA Side 4: 4 HL
Tax code: KT embossed on Side 4
Matrix: -1 on all sides
The labels: All four sides are in fantastic condition with clean labels and undamaged text. There are spindle marks to all sides, but none are excessive and there is no damage. Sides 2 and 3 have been stamped with a number '281' (only the 2 is visible on Side 3). These are the only flaws to otherwise perfect labels which i would grade as Exc+
The vinyl: All four sides retain their original glossy sheen. There are very few marks to be noted to Sides 1, 2 and 3. Side 4 has a few noticable marks, but nothing that is seriously detrimental to the sound. I would grade Sides 1, 2 and 3 as Exc and Side 4 as VG
The sound: Overall the sound is exceptional. Very clear with virtually no noise. Side 1 has a little noise in one of the quieter parts and Side two has a few audible pops at the end of Don't Pass Me By. Side 3 is fantastic. Side 4 has quite a few audible crackles and pops due to the marks, especially to Cry Baby Cry and Revolution 9, but they aren't excessive. There are no skips or jumps. I would grade Sides 1 and 2 as Exc, Side 3 as Exc+ and Side 4 as VG+.
The inserts: The poster is in excellent condtion. There are no tears, pinholes or sticky tape marks. There is a little wear to the fold creases. Overall it is one of the best posters you will see and I would grade is Exc+. The photos are all in superb condition, again with no damage and the original paper spacer is also included. I would also grade these as Exc+
The inner sleeves: The original black paper inner sleeves are included. One has a half inch tear to the top of the centre hold and both have a few creases to the bottom. Neither have any splits and are great examples of these rare inner sleeves. I would grade them Exc-
Overall this is a fantastic example of a first press of The Beatles' White Album in mono. I would grade the record overall as Exc
