The Beatles : White Album 1968 2nd Mono Pressing No 0212839 + Inserts
This is a wonderful version of this iconic album and the audio plays to a very high standard indeed. It is classified as a second mono pressing with the relatively low number of 0212839. It does however have the same matrix numbers as the first pressing. All inserts are included, the large poster and the four 'John Kelly' photos.
Dark green label with “An E.M.I. Recording” on the labels. This was added very soon after the first pressing run. “Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions, see price lists” text.

Visual grading
Both vinyls have been very carefully handled down the years and whilst there is some spindle wear it is not excessive so they have certainly not been played to death. There are some hairlines on each side and a handful of very fine scratches and this is more obvious on Sides 2 and 4. However, they have practically no bearing on the sound quality and there are certainly no feelable scratches. As described below the audio plays to an exceptionally high standard and for a record approaching 50 years the quality will not disappoint the avid collector.
Play grading
For such an iconic album I believe it is only fair to listen to every second of every track so as to give a complete representation of the audio.
There is barely any lead in static prior to 'Back in the USSR' so you're thinking this is going to play well and the audio does not disappoint! It plays with great clarity and just the slightest amount of static on the top end. There are no clicks or pops. The quiet intro to 'Dear Prudence' plays superbly throughout with only a couple of very light clicks on the fade out at the end. 'Glass Onion' plays in sublime fashion with Near Mint quality, the lack of interference is astounding. 'Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da' more than equals it with incredible clarity and resonance. This high end audio continues and '...Bungalow Bill' and the classic 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' play with supreme quality and no obvious interference, just a touch of distortion on the top end perhaps. This is no doubt due to a mono record being played through a stereo system. 'Happiness is a Warm Gun' ends the side with excellent clarity and only a little distortion. This side plays so well for a vinyl approaching 50 years of age and is without doubt one of the best I have heard. There is no crackle and barely any static and was a real pleasure to listen to :-)
Side Two again begins with almost no static again and the quiet piano intro on 'Martha My Dear' is superb. The remainder of the track has the same stunning quality and easily grades as Near Mint it is that good. You would be hard pressed to hear a better version than this, the quality is breathtaking for such an early mono pressing. 'I'm So Tired' and 'Blackbird' equal this standard and the latter in particular plays with astounding audio for such a quiet track and the clarity and depth once again is so impressive. Keeping up the standard 'Piggies' has no 'background' and plays with audio that is practically Mint and the same applies with 'Rocky Raccoon'. 'Don't Pass Me By' has no interference but there is some distortion on the top level due to it being a louder track and for the reason I stated before but in my opinion it is not intrusive. The final three tracks on this side play with nigh on perfect audio, the clarity and depth is absolutely stunning. 'I Will' plays with Mint quality which is something I rarely do on LPs that aren't sealed and 'Julia' is not far behind. There is just the odd barely audible dust tick but perhaps I only heard them because my ears are so close to the speakers! For two such quiet acoustic tracks to play with this sublime quality on an LP of this age is just so rare and they are without doubt the best versions I have heard on any pressing let alone on an early mono pressing.
Side Three again has almost zero lead in static and 'Birthday' then proceeds to play with immense quality and no interference (yet again!). The bass in particular comes through superbly on this track. 'Yer Blues' has only a minor amount of distortion and plays very clearly. No crackle or pops again. 'Mother Nature's Son' has just a touch of background static but it is just that, so much in the background as to be totally negligible and again grades as Near Mint. This version of '...Me And My Monkey...' is probably the best I have heard and for such a loud track it plays with dynamic power and incredible clarity and no distortion whatsoever. Absolutely stunning. 'Sexy Sadie' has no crackle, clicks etc but does have some faint static 'hiss' mainly on the second half of the track. 'Helter Skelter' plays loud (!) and clear but with some distortion on the top end but this is hardly surprising with it being played through a stereo system. It still plays very well and is not beset by any crackle or pops which you often find on 49 year old records. 'Long...' ends the side with excellent quality for the majority. The very many quiet sections play with clarity and only some light static in the background. However, just as the vocal ends there are four clicks and some static hiss on the final 'build'. This is the only negative on a side that once again plays with superlative audio for the vast majority.
Just for a change (!) Side Four starts with no lead in static and 'Revolution 1' then impresses with incredible audio quality and no interference at all. I keep going on about clarity but here it is just so obvious you are amazed this vinyl is just shy of 50 years old. The quiet intro to 'Honey Pie' has a little quiet static but is not off-putting in any way and the rest of the track plays in impeccable style. No crackle or pops anywhere to be heard. A fabulous listen. The remainder of the side plays with the same 'high end' quality. Whilst it may not be everyone's 'cup of tea' 'Revolution 9' has excellent audio with a little static 'hiss' on the top end. The final track 'Good Night' ends proceedings with clear audio but there is some static 'hiss' again in the background.
In summary it is so rare to find this iconic album plays in such a 'clean' condition and with so little interference. As stated I listened to every last second of this LP and where there is any 'background' I have mentioned it. This ranks as one of the best mono pressings I have ever heard and the lack of crackle is astounding. The depth and sonic quality is so good the audio will definitely not disappoint the true 'Beatles' collector.
Gatefold cover
The G & L laminated top loading gatefold is in overall very good condition with some minor shelf wear. The edges and corners have some rubbing but not excessively so and whilst the laminate itself is in excellent order it has split on a couple of small areas on the spine. There are a few tiny creases around the edges also. The inside of the gatefold is extremely clean as are the flipbacks which is very rare. There is a hint of ringwear on the front and back cover which you generally find on this album anyway. Overall though for its age and 'whiteness' it has maintained its integrity very well over the intervening decades. I have graded it as VG++ but it is honestly better than so many you see.
Inner sleeves
If these are the original black die-cut inner sleeves then they are in stunning condition with no wear whatsoever. No splits or creasing.
Labels
Both labels are in wonderful condition with no marking or writing at all. There is some spindle wear although it has to be said not very much for an album of this age.
Lyric Poster and Photos
The large fold out lyric poster is in excellent condition with only a few very small age related marks. There are no splits anywhere. The four photos are in stunning condition with only a couple of 'spots' on the top corner of the 'George one' Other than that they are in Mint condition.
