THE BEATLES
Please Please Me
HERE WE HAVE A MASSIVELY RARE ORIGINAL 1963 UK PARLOPHONE, BLACK/GOLD LABEL (PMC 1202) VERY FIRST *MONO* PRESSING (22nd March 1963) OF THE BEATLES' DEBUT, "Please Please Me" STILL SOUNDING AS FRESH AND RELEVANT TODAY AS IT DID WHEN IT WAS LAID DOWN ALMOST 45 YEARS AGO!!!!
THE LP IS PRESSED ON THICK, CHUNKY, ROBUST VINYL WITH DEEP CUT GROOVES WHICH STILL DELIVER ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING AUDIO!!! A REAL TESTAMENT TO THE QUALITY OF THIS FIRST PRESSING!!
IT HAS THE FIRST PRESSING MATRIX SEQUENCE: XEX 421-1N / XEX 422-1N WITH MOTHER/STAMPERS 2/GO and 1/ I I (which is possibly an M or H)
THE LABELS CARRY THE FULL SIX "Dick James Music Co." CREDITS AND ALSO THE EMBOSSED 'MT' TAX CODE ON THE SIDE ONE!!!!!!
This was The Beatles first official LP release (22nd March 1963) and for the one and ONLY time issued in *MONO* six weeks BEFORE the *STEREO* version - 22nd March 1963 (Mono only), 26th April 1963 (Stereo)
The album contains both the "A" and "B" sides of their first two singles plus 10 NEW SONGS recorded in ONE, now legendary session at Abbey Road Studios on February 11th, 1963!!!!!
The session cost just £400 and lasted 16 hours with 3 of the tracks - Chains, Boys and Twist and Shout - being laid down in just ONE take!!
The album took exactly 6 months to pass the sales figure of 250,000 and went on to sell over half-a-million in the U.K. with world sales of almost two million. It still holds the record for the longest continuous stay at Number One!!!
The album's cover photo was taken at EMIs Manchester Square headquarters by Angus McBean (credited on the bottom right hand corner of the sleeve) and has sleeve notes by Tony Barrow.
This first pressings has the six new McCartney/Lennon songs listed with a publishing credit of "Dick James Music Co." on the label
This is without doubt an EXTRAORDINARY record!!! A milestone in rock history and one of the rarest LPs in the Beatles' catalogue!!
This copy is an ORIGINAL UK FIRST *MONO* PRESSING (released, as already mentioned, six weeks BEFORE the *STEREO* version) on the GOLD/BLACK Parlophone label (PMC 1202)!!!!!
This is a totally GENUINE ITEM and a complete JOY to actually hold in your hands!!!!
The album is housed in the ORIGINAL front laminated tri-flipback sleeve “Printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London W11. Patent Pending”, and comes complete with it's original "Use Emitex Cleaning Cloths...." inner sleeve!!!!
LABELS: BEAUTIFUL condition. Only MINIMAL hole wear and NO real evidence of ANY spindle marks!!! They are BEAUTIFULLY CLEAN with very little surface wear and NO unwanted writing!!! VERY, VERY NICE!!!
VINYL Visual: The surfaces have numerous marks and scuffs but NO deep feel-able scratches and both sides still retain their nice GLOSSY SHEEN!!! (the marks don't show up well on the photos)
VINYL Audio: The audio is SUPERB!! Nice LOUD CUT with an amazing STRONG and VIBRANT sound!! Plays BEAUTIFULLY with NO prolonged scratches, NO skips, NO sticks, NO jumps and barley ANY surface noise!!!!!!! There are some (as to be expected) click and pop but in all honesty I was so exited about playing this that I hardly noticed them AT ALL!! As already mentioned the vinyl surfaces have marks and scuffs but these are generally of NO major audio consequence WHATSOEVER!! There is NO distortion and I would say very, VERY little actual groove-wear!!! Must grade a VERY GOOD+++ I am erring on the side of caution here!!!
SLEEVE: The original EJ Day sleeve is very presentable!!! It is GOOD and SOLID and 100% intact but there is a tape repair to the bottom edge - quite recent by the look of it but it's clean, neat and tidy!! there are also 2 names written on the back of the sleeve (see pics). The spine is nice and straight with all the text SHARP and CLEAR!!
Please see pictures for every detail of the record and sleeve. I will be happy to take other pictures if you need them - just message me with your email address and I will send you any pictures you request. I've tried to be as objective and conservative as possible when grading this item and considering that this LP probably spent most of its life on Dancette turntables it's in remarkably good shape!!!!! A SUPERB COPY AND I AM SURE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!
AS WITH ALL MY RECORDS THIS HAS A LOW START PRICE AND NO HIDDEN RESERVE
