THE BEATLES / PAST MASTERS VOLUMES 1&2, VINYL DOUBLE LP, MINT
This double LP, incredibly, was released a staggering 25 years ago, when CDs had apparently taken over the world and vinyl LPs were for nostalgists and old people only. Consequently, there was only a limited run of these LPs, which collect all the Beatles' tracks not issued on any of their albums - for much of their career, they did not issue singles from albums; this includes rare b-sides, the Long Tall Sally EP, and German-language versions of She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand - the latter two not for the faint-hearted, to be honest. But back to the point: Past Masters came, as I say, at a time when the production of vinyl LPs was being wound down - a philistine act of cultural vandalism that is now being recognised for the mistake it surely was, as the market for CDs - essentially an unremarkable storage medium with none of the allure of the vinyl LP - was heralding the brave new world of digital technology. Consequently, the vinyl release of Past Masters was a half-hearted affair, a nod to the then-middle-aged core audience of original Beatle fans, who had to have everything on vinyl. This is the first ULK pressing, with a double gatefold laminated sleeve and two LPs on the Parlophone label. The LPs are in mint condition, as in they are unplayed since the day I bought them, as I also bought the CDs: there is a pressing flaw at the start of side 1 - the care given to these pressings was somewhat lacking. This only affects the first 10 seconds or so. The sleeve is in excellent condition - there are a couple of flaws to the laminate - again, too little care and attention given to the manufacturing process. This is a nice item for the serious Beatles collector, and a fine introduction to their extraordinary oeuvre for the novice. Please note that overseas postage rates ARE INCLUSIVE OF INSURANCE. I would strongly recommend insured postage in Britain, too.
