Description
Here we have a classic piece of original Beatles memorabilia, manufactured in 1964 by the Selmer subsidiary 'Selcol' in simply stunning condition!
One of seven models produced by Selcol, the 'New Beat' guitar is made from red & burgundy plastic and measures approximately 32" in length, with a full colour group sticker and facsimile autographs on the body. The 'New Beat' logo is picked out in silver to the left of the sound hole. The original Selcol sticker is still in it's original position in the sound hole. The plastic is bright and clean, and shows only light scuffing, mainly (as you'd expect) to the scratch plate. It is free from cracks, the only damage being that two strings are missing, but all four tuning pegs still remain. The two-colour cord 'strap' is also attached!
It is still housed in the original coffin-shaped cardboard box with a 9" diameter full colour sticker on the lid. It inevitably shows some signs of storage, however the all-important die-cut inner packaging remains.
The original fold-out instruction sheet is included, with lyrics and chords to five songs. Copyright issues prevented any of these from being Lennon-McCartney compositions, however you can relive the Hamburg days with a stab at 'My Bonnie'!
Being over 43 years old, and originally intended as a children's plaything, it is indeed remarkable that this guitar survives - and in such good condition!
