The Beatles in Russian – “Magical Mystery Tour / Yellow Submarine” 2×LP Rare Ex-USSR Edition
This is a highly unusual and sought-after Russian-language Beatles double LP from St. Petersburg, issued by the Anton label in the early 1990s. Both the gatefold sleeve and labels are covered with Cyrillic text, Russian translations of the song titles and essays about the albums. The labels even carry Russian flags, making this copy instantly recognisable on any turntable. Collectors love these ex-USSR editions because they combine iconic Beatles music with a very specific historical moment – the first years after the Iron Curtain opened, when fans in Russia could finally celebrate this music openly. Finding this set with both records in excellent condition is extremely difficult today.

Vinyl (both records): Excellent (EX)
Visually the discs are in beautiful shape. Under strong angled light only a few ultra-fine micro hairlines can be seen – no deep marks. Surfaces are clean, glossy and well preserved for a more than 30-year-old Russian pressing. Very hard to find this title in such condition.
Play test: plays great on my turntable with strong, clear sound. Light background noise may appear in some quieter parts (as is normal for this kind of pressing), but there are no repeating clicks or jumps during playback in my system.
Gatefold sleeve: Very Good (VG)
Rare full Russian-language gatefold. Noticeable general wear: edge and corner wear, spine wear and small splits in places, some creases and age-related discoloration/soiling, plus a bit of fading to the colours. The artwork and text are still bright and fully readable, and the sleeve keeps a lot of character.

Why collectors love this edition
This 2×LP comes from a carefully curated ex-USSR collection now in the UK. Russian Beatles releases with full Cyrillic artwork, Russian flags on the labels and detailed essays on the back cover are increasingly hard to find – especially outside the former Soviet Union. Many collectors hunt specifically for these Anton, St. Petersburg issues because they capture a unique, local view of the Beatles story and were pressed in relatively small quantities compared to UK/US editions. Finding a set where both records grade EX is close to impossible today, which makes this copy a very attractive addition to any serious Beatles or Eastern Bloc collection.
