Description
Hello and welcome to one of my auctions! I am a record collector for over 15 years now and I think it’s about time to sell a couple records to make some room and pass it on to another collector. This week’s auctions feature my Beatles, Rolling Stones and some progressive records that are form my own personal collection, so here we go!
On offer, an extremely rare 1st UK pressing of THE BEATLES – Let It Be, on the DARK GREEN Apple label, cat. no. PCS 7096 with the Get Back Photo book. This album is straight from the Let it Be Box set, the cover has the RED Apple logo on the back. The box is unfortunately not present anymore.
The record is in VG Minus condition; there are lots of hairline scuffs, visible marks and one or two sounding marks. Because this record looks somewhat beat-up, I have test played it. The record plays through without any skips or jumps, but there is a light background crackle. The labels are in VG condition, there are lots of spindle marks, but there is no damage done to the printing. The matrix numbers are machine stamped and are: YEX 773-2U and YEX 774-2U, indicating the very first pressing.
The cover is in VG condition, there are a couple tiny bald spots on the spine, there is some wear in the corners and on the opening edge. Also there is a tiny tear of approx 0.8 cm on the opening edge on the back and two small pieces of laminate have come off.
The Get Back book is better preserved than the record and is in EX minus condition. There are no pages loose from the spine (most books have a couple loose pages, but this one is still intact). There is only a small fold in the lower right corner on the front and a very tiny bald spot on the front, just next to the spine.
Although the record has lived and the box is not present, this is a very rare Beatles item. When Let It Be was first released in May 1970 with the slipcase and book, sales were terrible because of the high price. EMI – Apple decided in November to discard the box and book, and alter the colour of the Apple logo on the back of the cover from red to green. Just a few months after that, the colour of the labels were also adjusted to a lighter shade of green, because the black print on the A-side was barely readable. This particular copy I’m am offering still has the dark green labels, the red apple logo on the back, the -2U matrix endings and a Get Back book in great condition. This item would be perfect if you have a complete box with a trashed book. Or maybe you only have an empty box. Anyway, this is a great opportunity to upgrade or make your Beatles collection more complete! Happy Bidding!
