NOTES
THIS VINYL WAS FIRST RELEASED ON 6th AUGUST 1965
BUT THE TAX CODE SHOULD BE KT NOT MT
MT – Jenuary 1, 1963 – June 30, 1963.
KT – July 1, 1963 (used until 1972).
The MT tax code here is obviously incorrect as it was phased out in 1963 !!
The tax code was pressed in the trail-off area (SP and EP) and embossed in the center of the label or printed on the label. The purchase tax was introduced during World War II and was a sort of “luxury tax”. As the tax percentage fluctuated, the tax code changed. The record companies introduced the new tax codes at specific dates
On November 26, 1962, the tax was re-imposed at 45% and assigned a PT code. The tax was lowered to 25% on January 1, 1963, leading to MT code. On July 1, 1963, the was re-imposed at 25% and the tax code changed to KT. Although the tax was raised to 27.5% on July 21, 1966, to 50% on March 20, 1968, and to 55% on November 23, 1968, the KT designation remained.
Side 2 has the MT tax code.
This record has The Beatles 1st, Northern Songs, NCB under neath and Made In Britain on the bottom on side 1 only.
First pressing. August 6, 1965. Black label with yellow logo and silver print. “The Gramophone Co. Ltd.” printed at the start perimeter print and “Sold in U.K. subject…” text. Capitol print. Tracing-paper-lined “Use Emitex” die-cut inner sleeve.
Variation A. The original 1st labels used a Sans-Serif font and the * credit indicator for “I Need You” was placed to the right of the song title with a space between: I Need You *.
CONDITION SUMMARY
VINYL
Graded as VERY NEAR MINT, possibly played this 5-6 times ONLY since 1965, have other copies which I played instead.
Beautiful glossy mirror like finish, really beautiful condition with ZERO hairline marks each side , A VERY VERY FAINT Sleve removal rub on Side 1 ONLY is just about visible even in strong light !!
When play tested SUPERB SILENT AUDIO PLAYBACK !
SILENT ON RUN INS & BETWEEN TRACKS AND STUNNING CLARITY AT HIGH VOLUME ON MY TOP END REGA SYSTEM ! JUST LOVELY !!
SIMPLY AMAZING AFTER 56 YEARS
Crystal clear and vibrant through out, with (no) distortion or any signs of groove wear at all !!!!
Certainly (no) clicks pops or jumps!! As good as it gets in my opinion!!
THIS AUDIO IS RATED AT THE VERY TOP ON ALL FREQUENCIES!
AUDIO GRADED AS NEAR MINT!!
UNBELIEVABLE FOR A VINYL THAT PURCHASED IN AUGUST 1965 !!
PLEASE SEE ALL PICS AND USE ZOOM TO SELF ASSESS
OUTER LAMINATED FLIPBACK MONO SLEEVE
A VERY NEAR MINT grading for this original Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve is 100% accurate.
ITS A STUNNING BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE !!
The front of the sleeve is superbly clean and glossy still, the notoriously difficult to keep clean unlaminated rear is also AMAZING, all flip backs are un damaged and all text is clear and legible. SUPERB !!
The spine is unworn and text is clearly visible and legible, always kept in a dust cover and stored correctly. ONE OF THE BEST IVE EVER SEEN See pics Lovely !!!
CENTRE LABELS
Both sides are Near Mint with just a few spindle trails around the centre hole, further evidence of the very few plays in the last 56 years !!
ORIGINAL EMITEX POLYLINED INNER SLEEVE
NEAR MINT LIKE NEW, CRISP, CLEAN AND WITH NO SPLITS. AMAZING !!
DIFFICULT TO BEAT THIS COPY UNLESS STILL SEALED ?
