Description

49. TEFTELLER Charlie Parker 1954 UNKNOWN Handbill, letter etc!

Here is one for the ages! On February 26th 1954 Charlie Parker (and others) appeared in concert at the Paramount Theater in San Francisco, California.

What I am offering, related to that performance is incredible!

First, there is an original letter from the promoter of the show, Ralph J. Gleason to Wally King, long time San Francisco Bay Area Disc Jockey dated February 11th 1954. Gleason sent King copies of records by everyone who was to play at the concert and promises to send King free tickets to the show as soon as he has some and praises King for all he has done and is doing to promote Jazz.

Next, is the original press release for the show, exactly as sent to Wally King by Ralph Gleason, the promoter of the show. There is a bit of damage to the edges but all the print is intact. In the press release Charlie Parker is mentioned along with Stan Kenton, June Christy, Erroll Garner Trio and Dizzy Gillespie.

And, the best for last, the third item in this lot is the original handbill for the show! It has been folded but you can clearly read “Charlie Parker, number one alto saxophone player of our time” Also mentions Lee Konitz, Dizzy Gillespie, June Christy, Erroll Garner and Stan Kenton.

To my knowledge, there is no other known copy of any of these papers in any collections anywhere. If you have copies, please let me know! If you don’t, you may want to consider bidding.

Starting bid $9.99

I have been collecting and selling Rare Records and Memorabilia for over 30 years. I worked for Groucho Marx in the 1970's doing archival research. I have collected RARE BLUES 78 rpm RECORDS since the 1970's and probably have the world's best collection of that type of music.

Check out the ABOUT ME page for me by clicking on the ME icon next to my name.

I have over 75,000 Blues and Rhythm and Blues 78's in my Inventory. 90% of these records are old store stock and in BRAND NEW CONDITION AND IN ORIGINAL SLEEVES.

I now realize that there is NO WAY I WILL LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO SELL ALL OF THEM ONE AT A TIME....so I am starting to sell some on eBay in addition to my regular monthly auctions of Rare Records that appears in GOLDMINE MAGAZINE.

Rest assured that I do know how to pack and ship FRAGILE 78 RPM Phonograph records across the USA and across the world. I DO NOT use those thin Pizza Boxes. Your records will be mailed with plenty of cardboard around them in nice DEEP boxes with lots of packing peanuts etc. all around them for extra safety.

I will also be offering some MOVIE MEMORABILIA and related collectible items.

Thank you for looking at my listings and GOOD LUCK in bidding!
