Description

[Due to a computer breakdown, and having to work from the L.A. Public Library, I was able only to post re-runs for the past six weeks! From now on, there will be exclusively NEW listings, which I hope will deeply intrigue you.]  


Here is MIKE BERNARD, "The Rag-Time King of the World," in 1913, doing his vertiginous, over-the-top, uninhibited virtuoso pianism, on his own composition, "TANTALIZING TINGLES."  On the flip, "MEDLEY OF IRVING BERLIN SONGS" is no less showy and fireworks-encrusted.   


Bernard was a child piano prodigy, who studied in Europe, then came back to America in about 1900 to find that "Ragtime" had swept the country.  He took to it enthusiastically, touring everywhere in Vaudeville and taking on all challengers.  He was never bested.  (Though I wonder how he would have stood up to monster pianists Luckey Roberts or "One Leg" Willie Joseph).  Still, he was quite formidable, and importantly, was the ONLY virtuoso-ragtime pianist to make records during the era.  This is one of them.  


This original 1913 "Big Notes" Columbia A1386 is in sturdy E- condition. One should be sitting down while listening!

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care.
