Description
Steely Dan ‘Aja’ Cisco Records Limited Edition vinyl Number 5143.
As a consequence of the ageing process, not only is my hearing going but also I’m conscious that I may not have enough time left to listen to all my recorded music so I’m looking to rationalise my music collection, especially unplayed vinyl.
For auction is my ‘virtually unplayed’ copy (See text below) of the Limited Edition Cisco records version of this classic album.
Bought by me new about 12 years ago I have had this album, still sealed, stored in a record storage box and never played. I have the ‘Citizen’ boxed CD set for everyday listening.
On doing some cursory initial research it appears the Cisco version is highly regarded and mint copies attract a significant premium. Further investigation also yielded a YouTube video that, whilst claiming the Cisco version as the best sounding, also suggested that long-sealed copies of this version are prone to problems with glue from the inner sleeve leaving residue on the outer edges of the vinyl. See the following clip for more information - from about 10 minutes in https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P3G3-MKPg04
After some deliberation, I unsealed the polythene slip case and carefully inspected the vinyl and can see no evidence of any residue. However I did notice a small (2mm) bubble in the vinyl at the end of track 1, side one. I played this track using a high quality, low-effective tip mass cartridge with contact-line stylus and the bubble is absolutely silent. The rest of the record remains unplayed and looks pristine in its blackness. The potentially troublesome inner sleeve has been replaced by a Nagoaka anti static liner. The lyrics/recording credits insert is pristine.
The outer gatefold sleeve is clean and shiny, although there is a small ripple along the top edge (See photo) and there is some minor wear to the top and bottom corners of the gatefold itself which is a mystery as the album was sealed until very recently. (See photographs)
Here is a rare opportunity to bid for what is arguably the finest sounding vinyl version of this classic album.
