Description
Here we have a wonderful time capsule of a VERY joyous "live" show, recorded at the Apollo Theatre in New York on November 16th 1963 (a few days before JFK was shot.. and people stopped wanting to have a good time for quite a while).
It features Ben E King, The Coasters, Doris Troy, Rufus Thomas, Otis Redding and The Falcons. There is an outrageous MC, King Coleman, and the amazing band is led by King Curtis featuring very good Steve Cropper & Duck Dunn "doppelgangers" if it isn't actually them. This is probably what Belushi wanted the "Blues Brothers" band to sound like.
One high point.. if you listen carefully, there's a girl in the audience saying something like "sing it pretty, Otis" followed by Otis doing exactly that!
Condition-wise:
The sleeve isn't in superb condition. It's clean and complete. It has some very slight handling marks on the back, plus the remains of a price label, but I reckon we can still conservatively rate it as a solid collectable VG+ or better.
The disc is also lovely and clean and would be a VG++ or better if it weren't for a visible mark.
It's a light line where the disc has been carelessly removed from the sleeve at some time in the last 59 years.
It crosses the whole of one side but it can not be heard, at least on my very good gear, with the mono button pressed.
It is barely audible, even WITHOUT the mono button pressed.
One side is a definite VG++ or better while the other side looks like a VG+ but definitely plays VG++ or better.
Have a look at the photographs, some taken in harsh sideways light, to see what condition the condition is in.
