Sonny Rollins – Volume 2, 1957 USA LP Blue Note BLP 1558.
This is a lovely example of the LP – Sonny Rollins – Volume 2. It was released in the USA on the Blue Note label in 1957 – BLP 1558. Please Note that I have no knowledge of American pressings. I am going to describe what I can see and have taken seven pictures that will hopefully tell you all you need to know. I do not know if it is a 1957 ‘original’. I bought it as part of a collection from a man locally who purchased records starting in 1958 through to 1963, with most of his records dating from 1960 and 1961. In the dead-wax area both sides have RVG stamped into them and the ‘ear’ symbol. The matrix numbers (not machine stamped but etched) are BN-LP-1558-A-2 and BN-LP-1558-B-2. There is a groove on both labels – but as I have never had a Blue Note LP before I do not know how deep the ‘deep groove’ should be. But it is visible and can be felt. The labels state Blue Note Records Inc. 47 West 63rd NYC. That address is also on the (perfect condition with no splits) Blue Note advertising inner-sleeve. The back of the cover has the same details but is missing the Inc after Blue Note Records. Despite a faint scuff-mark on the first track – Reflections – on side two, which is non-audible - the record is in EX.The great quality sturdy laminated cover grades as EX. There are a couple of small rubs to the bottom edge and very slight bumps to the tips of the corners. The back is remarkably clean and bright and it has no splitting to the edges.
