Description
It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please bear that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Here we have a lovely UK Doctor Bird 45rpm single DB1082. It dates from 1967 and has a 4 prong centre.
The toons are: The Fugitives - "Musical Pressure" and The Valentines and The Fugitives "All In One"
The original recording was on Gayfeet, and it is an absolute corker.
The record is remarkably shiny and plays very well, but has a couple of mini problemettes. The B side (which features a Victor Sylvester over-the-top piano introduction that even Liberace might have considered to be a little too extravagant) has a small scuff that you can't hear and a couple of tiny scratches right at the end of the song that appear as a definite click, even with the mono button pressed. Otherwise it's remarkably clean and lovely.
The A aside (which is by far THE BEST SIDE) is very shiny with no scratches or scuffs, BUT there are a couple of dimples in the vinyl which might be a pressing fault. They're very difficult to see, let alone photograph (I did my best) and they do not give grief to the ear'ole.
Just be aware, chums, that they ARE there.
There are a couple of asterisks (drawn with a green fountain pen?) on the A side label only.
The B side is NOT as listed in my fairly recent copy of "Record Collector" which is my favourite reading next to the Bible and Shakespeare. It is actually as listed by my good friend Mr "Diz" Cogz for all the releases.
You could Dee Jay perfectly well with this SHINY disc which sounds clear and clean. However, because of that one scratch and the "dimples" I'll grade it as a VG+ or thereabouts.
I am not a dealer.
I am just a very old bloke thinning out his lifetime collection of STUFF before the floor collapses (or I do).
I'm selling most of this stuff for much less
than I paid for it.
What a great business plan (I don't think)!
I am certainly NOT INTERESTED IN PROFIT..
..and indeed, seldom make any!
What little profit I do make goes to help
a very splendid Wildlife Rescue Charity.
The item in the photograph is the item you will get.
I have described everything to the best of my ability, and it looks in excellent condition to me.
Please check the photographs to decide for yourself.
NO OVERSEAS bidders please.
And NO OVERSEAS bidders using UK addresses please.
I am a simple sort, and I want my buyers to be happy. If there is any kind of problem, I like to sort it out personally. I can’t do this if you’re thousands of miles away!
